Charles' new club. Looks pretty nice. And rumour has it deep dish is spinning there on wednesday! Wish I knew for sure though. This place is like 10 minutes from where I'm staying this summer. *high hopes*

I was at fallsview on saturday, I believe it was opening weekend. Didn't know the place was open, so I wasnt dressed properly, got denied at the door.

Decor from what I seen is phenomenal. Definately worth checking out later on.

On regular weekends like this past opening one it was a top 40 clientele from what I've heard. However, I definitely believe that this Wednesday Deep Dish will be playing on May 24th at the club. It's probably an "invitation" only like the time Deep Dish played for a VIP crowd at Charles' Ultra Supper Club in T.O. last year.

Having lived, DJed and even promoted events in the Niagara Region for years, I can assure you that this is going to be full of top 40 schlock just like every other club on the strip. I can see them hosting the occassional event, but the reality is that the Niagara clubs attract one of two elements - Niagara College and Brock students looking to get hammered (preferably cheaply) and under 21 Americans looking to get hammered.

I wouldn't have high hopes for this place.

Another club called Masque tried to open in Niagara Falls' downtown many years back and there was literally millions dropped into the place. It was quite honestly one of the most beautiful clubs I've ever been in. It tanked, 'cause right across the street was a cheesy club offering up cheesy tunes when Masque was going for an older, more sophisticated clientelle with house music and trance as its music policy.

I'm soooooooooo glad I no longer live in that tourist trap of a region!

Cheers,
J<

Maybe. I was just curious about it because I knew the guy who turned it from a shack into Malibu. Just wondered if it's still functioning or if he bailed on it.

No big deal.

I lived in the Niagara Region for 3 years during school. HATED every second of it. loopdokter summed it up perfectly. Gino's and lame-ass music.
I was SOOOO hungry for decent music back then, I was constantly coming to Toronto to party. There was no "scene" in the Falls.....made baby jesus cry.

Another point to add though, this bar On81 in St. Catharines has strictly house every thursday and saturday, it's a smaller place but fills up. And it's not commercial house either. It's been around for quite some time now. Seems to be doing really well. That's why I have hope for dragonfly.

St. Shitts has always had at least one decent house night for a while now, but I don't think that's really indicative of the area - ESPECIALLY the Niagara Falls strip. Realistically, I don't think the region could support more than one thing going on anyway.

I helped run a night called Disco 3000 at the old Gord's Place (I'm showing my age here) in St. Kitts for 3 years and even it suffered a lot when I left for the summer because the other guy promoting it wouldn't really promote it. We had to literally hit people over the head with flyers and tell them it was 'cool' for them to show up. That said, we did have some quality nights there. :)

Cheers,

This thread is starting to make me remember all of the dodgy experiences I had playing in that area... Playing in Niagara Falls, NY and the promoter moving the location of the venue without telling me, trying to duck out on paying me... Getting searched at the border on my way to a Buffalo rave because the border gaurds 'knew I had drugs' (which I didn't) and then throwing me in a holding cell and ripping my car apart. 1 Queenston Street (I think it's a gym now) allowing me to do a night but not wanting to spend a cent of money behind the club to repair even a lightbulb. The people behind The Vault being the sleeziest lowlifes known to mankind... Going back to play 2 summers ago, agreeing upon a price and having the management stiff me for $300 of my wages. It was biker-owned of course, so arguing was futile. Hmm, what else? CFBU's ill-fated attempt at a night Front 54 (is that shithole still open?) in Thorold on a Monday and going 'live-to-air' (AKA taped and played 3 weeks later). Watching a bouncer of Front 54 taking a patron and quite literally skipping him on the pavement as he THREW him out of the place... There's so many things!

I'm so glad I got the fuck outta Dodge! That entire area is sooooooo depressing.

Cheers,

Apparently it opened last week and hasn't been doing so well.... hmmm
official opening isn't until this Friday
if there's something on Wednesday it's probably an event for media (speaking of, Smashmouth played the media event for Great Wolf Lodge in the Falls last month...you know your career is over when your gigs are opening family getaway parks).
hope the club does well, regardless of its theme, as the Fallsview only has the one small "club" within the casino which isn't really big and is cheese. Just hope it's a new space and they haven't converted any of the restaurants.

Well, I just visit their website and they officially opened last weekend. They have a confirmed House Music night on Wednesday evenings. I'll bet for sure tomorrow night Deep Dish will be spinning, but it's not posted on the website.

One of those "For those who know" parties is my guess...

I don't think so... Don't recall hearing anything other than the standard "Alternative" stuff in there. Beastie Boys, Ministry and the like. It was a huge mish mash of music, but it was always a great time!
Anything to get away from the MANY top-40 shit bars in that area. Best part was watching all the girl on girl action in there. GOOD times! :D That place attracted some crazy women!

This was like....10 years ago! God, now I'm showing my age too!
