Not yet. The Tax Credit announced in the Federal Budget for Digital Subscriptions to Big Journo doesn't kick in until 2020.

So, being her business background is completely irrelevant to education, let's hope her her ACADEMIC CREDENTIALS are more germain and impressive.

It turns out, somewhere along line either before or after she became a politician, she received a "certificate" in public administration online from the University of Guelph

In Ontario, certificates are normally 1 or 2 year programs, unlike Bachelor Degrees that are 3 or 4 years, Masters, a few more, and PHDs, a few more still

However, upon examining the University of Guelph website, this specific online "certificate" only has 5 half credit courses to it.

Yep, just 5 half credit classes.

Normally 5 half credits would take a single term if done full time.

But being it was an online program, we don't know how long it took Ms.Thompson though. Most likely she took the 5 courses, part time.

She does not hold a Bachelor's degree, a Master's degree, or a Doctorate.

There is also no evidence that she has studied anything related to to childhood or adolescent education at any time in her life.

We can find also find no specific business education, other than her personal experiences related to her GOAT COOPERATIVE.

Academically, therefore, she would NOT BE QUALIFIED to teach anything, at any level in Canada, from Pre-School through University.

So the person in charge of, and making decisions related to the entire education system in Canada's largest province, has precisely ZERO qualifications related to education, and only 5 half credit courses related to government / public administration.

Can you please post a link to the source of this information? I can’t find it anywhere and need to share it with several people I know in the profession and administration. Much appreciated! :)

Let’s leave the physical appearance bullshit out of this. You don’t need it. It’s self-evident.

The “uneducated piece of shit assclown” label pretty well covered it. ...save for the addition of half-wit, half-assed hash-peddling, nepotistic rip-off artist and trust fund bitch.

I don’t care how much the fucking goof weighs. He’d be the same piece of shit if he was 100lbs, soaking wet. ;)

it was taken from someone's FB page. I'll try to find it again. the OP is / was a Teacher, and it definitely seemed like they did their homework.
Thompson's education details should be public knowledge.

28 STUDENTS PER CLASSROOM IN ONTARIO

My wife Boni (a retired Ontario elementary school teacher) and I were wondering about this proposed class size in Ontario, made by the Ontario Minister of Education.

We also wondered who she was, and what made her qualified to tell us, somewhat counterintuitively that putting 27% more students (from 22 to 28) in a classroom would somehow IMPROVE the education of children in Ontario, or as she somewhat cynically said "would make them more resilient."

Essentially, where does she get that from and how does she know that?

I know we've generally have been pleased with the progresses made in education that have occurred over the last 4 decades, as we've had student teacher ratios decrease, so teachers could pay more attention to each student and also have enough time to deal with special needs students properly as well.

There are many more children with identified special needs than there were 30 and 40 years ago. They existed, but many issues were not identified or treated back then.

Somehow now, though, Ms. Lisa Thompson, the Minister of Education for the Province of Ontario, seems to think kids will get a better education with 29 students in a class, despite this contravening all historic academic evidence, data and analysis on optimum class sizes and student / teacher ratios.

To put this into perspective, the rest of Canada has class sizes of 23, with 90% of classes fewer than 20 students. The US has average class sizes of 23.1.

Upon further investigation, it turns out, only 2 COUNTRIES in the world have class sizes of 28 or more, China and Korea. And they have vastly different cultures than we have in North America. Most wealthy families send their children to private schools, and many to other countries.

So at 28 students per class, we'd be among the largest class sizes on the planet.

That certainly sounds pretty risky to me. How about you?

So who is Ms. Lisa Thompson? What makes her so qualified to know that it won't be harmful, and to implement such a radical and risky policy?

What has she done, before being put in charge of education, by the current Doug Ford lead, Conservative Government?

Does she have decades of intense study on this subject?

    Not quite.

It turns out, before entering politics, Lisa Thompson ran a GOAT COOPERATIVE

I have nothing against goat cooperatives, or any particular agricultural business. I eat meat, (not goat though) so I won't criticize and don't want to sidetrack the discussion.

And to be fair, I'm not really 100% certain what the heck a goat cooperative is.

I've never heard of one before. Have you?

But let's use our noggin a bit, and assume as a cooperative, it is a group of people banded together, that raise a bunch of goats, as inexpensively as possible, and then collectively, market and sell them for as much profit as possible, before the goats head off to slaughter.

Heaven forbid, this isn't the foundation of her education policies going forward.

Anyway, I don't know if was a large, small, or successful business, but let's face it, a GOAT COOPERATIVE doesn't have a hell of a lot to do with educating our children.

So the person in charge of, and making decisions related to the entire education system in Canada's largest province, has precisely ZERO qualifications related to education, and only 5 half credit courses related to government / public administration.

The actual Ministry of Education, the Ministry she is in charge of, would not even bring on an INTERN with so few academic credentials, let alone any of their permanent staff.

Essentially, related to education, all Ms.Thompson is, is an inexperienced, uneducated politician, with an opinion, that was given a big job.

But she 1) ran a goat business, 2) took 5 classes online, and 3) is a conservative and friend of Premiere Doug Ford.

Which of those do you think got her the job?

    Chances are it's #3. Wouldn't you agree?

The only criteria you need to be a Minister in the Ontario government is, you need to agree with Doug Ford, who is yet another person with no relevant education or background.

I understand politicians are always picked to head government ministries. But in the case of something as critical as the future of education in our province, I suggest the government should appoint someone with extensive relevant education and experience.

Without that this is simply the classic definition of the blind leading the blind.

That's how friggin crazy things are right now in Ontario..

Our children deserve so much better!

We cannot risk this change, just because some uninformed, uneducated ham fisted politicians thinks it will do no harm.

You can email Ms. Thompson at: minister.edu@ontario.ca
You can phone her office at: 416-325-2600

Protesters drive Doug Ford out of Napanee! KIngston and District Labour Council president Lesley Jamieson reports:

"50 members of OSSTF Limestone District, CUPE, OECTA, ETFO, PSAC, parents of children with autism and the KDLC came out to welcome Doug Ford in Napanee at a few hours notice. His attempt to hold a press conference turned into awkwardly circling the block until turning tail and running."

This is making the rounds. Please copy and paste/post if you want to support education:

Not written by me, but please share it by copying and pasting it into your timeline post. Everyone needs to see this.

This is so wrong in so many ways

Some bullet points on what Doug Ford & Education Minister Lisa Thompson are doing to education in Ontario:

    - increasing class sizes in secondary school... classes would have a minimum of 28 kids, but could be as large as 45!!! When asked how teachers would be able to support/help additional students, Education Minister Thomson made the following suggestions: families hire tutors (sorry families in poverty!), and students could teach/tutor each other. Oh - and by being in overcrowded classrooms - students will learn "coping skills" and "resilience" which are needed in the "workplace." Ya. Right.

    - Our Minister of Education Lisa Thompson, is a goat farmer & her Parliamentary assistant, Sam Oosterhoff, was homeschooled, are these people qualified to handle an Education portfolio? That would a resounding NOPE.

    - 4 mandatory e-learning classes in high school - these classes might be hired by private outside firms, have as many as 35 kids per session... these e-learning classes will reduce the number of elective courses available by 12% meaning less Arts and interest based courses. Let's not forget that families in poverty might not be able to afford devices/wifi to complete these courses. Last but not least, the government e-learning page up until Friday stated "e-learning was not for everyone" and cited high drop-out rates... the website has since been updated since the e-learning announcement.

    - the "funding" announced for Autism Spectrum Disorder kids is not new or extra money...it is the same amount of money ALL students get. So no extra money for EA supports. Nothing. ASD kids lost their funding in outside supports and are entering school in overcrowded classrooms with even less support. Teachers are being offered a ONE day PD day training on ASD... teachers are educators, not therapists. Furthermore, overcrowded noisy classrooms will be a trigger for some ASD children.

    - Full Day Kindergarten is status quo for now but not for long... there is talk of eliminating the teacher entirely or partially from FDK.

    - All these changes will result in fewer teachers and education workers in schools... less one-on-one time for ALL our children. The quiet kids, the anxious kids, the slower kids, the needy kids will all fall through the cracks as teachers struggle to put out fires & manage large numbers.

    - The Minister of Education stated in an interview today that if music & art classes are eliminated because of increased class sizes and elimination of arts funding, kids can always join extracurricular band. Not only is this wrong, but I can assure you that if teachers increase from 180 to 240 students in a year with 40 kids in a class, there will be no extracurriculars happening. Teaching, prepping and assessing that many students will not leave any time for the extras that we take for granted.

    - Ask teachers & EAs about workplace violence. If they have not been assaulted themselves, they certainly know a colleague that has been or witnessed it themselves. Ask your KIDS if they've witnessed student violence upon educators, or if their class has ever had to be evacuated due to a violent student. It happens FAR more often that you probably realize. Packing in more kids into classes, kids with mental health needs and special education needs, and providing fewer supports is a recipe for disaster.

    - It costs $33 MILLION DOLLARS to administer EQAO annually. That money could be better spent elsewhere... see points above!!!

    - Furthermore, Doug Ford hired his buddy failed PC candidate Cameron Montgomery as the new full-time chair of the board of directors of the EQAO at a salary of $140,000, a position that had previously been part-time with an up to $225 per diem.

    - They've also cancelled the Local Priorities Fund which has invested approximately $200 million a year in special education to support students in need, 'at risk' students and adult education. Over 500 positions have been cut: Special Education Teachers, Education Assistants, Social Workers, Behavioural Assistants and ABA trained staff. These students will be expected to learn with larger class sizes and no support system.

    - Doug Ford cancelled entirely the $100 million school repair
fund. So schools will fall into a greater state of disrepair and be less safe for your children and education workers.

Parents, education workers, students and friends of education... we need to mobilize and speak out. It is clear that all of the above will be incredibly detrimental to education.

    This is John Snobelen.
He was the Minister of Education in 1995 under Mike Harris. He is a high school drop out (he was also arrested not too long ago for having an unregistered hand gun). Before the Harris government caused havoc in public education by removing $2 billion of funding, John Snobelen pronounced that he needed to "create a useful crisis" for change. That he did. Now, Mr. Snobelen is heavily involved in horse racing. His friend, Doug Ford, just announced $10 million for Ontario Horse racing, for which Mr. Snobelen lobbied hard, despite the fact that Doug Ford removed hundreds of millions from ASD and now wants to remove up to $1 billion from public education, causing less choice for students. Now, Mr. Snobelen is paying back Doug Ford by publically stating that Ford's education cuts are 'right on track". This is an example of who Doug Ford listens to...he is not for the "folks" that are slugging out a living in Ontario, he is for the "folks" that want more profits, less regulation, and tax cuts. Now, I like horses as much as the next person, but I prefer adequate services for the most vulnerable more.
