Premier Ford should now seek to shrink all the municipalities council sizes as a counter, show judges across the province he wasn't merely trying to fuck over those councilors he didn't like at city Hall

Cutting City Councillors in half is an easy way to double the size of the Toronto Council.

This press conference is something else. He's saying judges are partisan because they are appointed, and that he's overruling the decision by employing the notwithstanding clause!!

What is his urgency here? All his government has to do is mandate this change for the next municipal election and he is legally covered and the city can properly assess and plan for it. Instead he wants to invoke a controversial clause and recall parliament to make sure its done ASAP. Why should the rest of the province care? Aren't there other pressing issues his government should be looking at that affects all Ontarians? This is deeply personal to him.

Doug's eager to settle some scores with Toronto Council.

Note that the AG wasn't there at the conference with Doug said he'd push it through.

Ford: "I would never imagine in a million years, a democratically elected government, by 2.3 million people, being overturned by one appointed judge. That's shocking."
Smyth: "But that's the judicial system."
Ford: "That is absolutely shocking to me."

He's also out touch with who appoints superior court judges - he claimed (out of his ass) this one was by McGuinty, but in reality they're from the federal government.

What does all this even mean? Will the upcoming election be for the lower amount of wards or the higher amount?

Again, what is his goddamn rush to do this? Clearly he thinks this is the opportunity for his allies to snag up enough seats that Dougie can now rule Toronto. None of this would be an issue if he just said, next election these are the rules. But no, Dougie needs to control Toronto. What a farce.

Lower. After he has the party vote on invoking the NWSC in the legislature on Wednesday.

Pandora's box is opened after that vote.

Not only increased chance of many more applications of S33 in Ontario - but countrywide, as other Premiers follow suit for more and more issues.

Pipelines - right to work - whatever the fuck it is that courts slow down and is temporarily inconvenient to any sitting Premier.

Could even lead to constitutional realignment if it festers/percolates long enough. A messy one too since Quebec and all the premiers will be in love with S33 still, especially after starting to use it so much.

Doug Ford shows you what happens when you vote in someone who doesn't respect norms. A lot of our system is actually dependent on "norms".

Ford is talking about judges "making law". There's room to appeal this particular ruling. And apparently judges "make law" "often", as per the Globe:

Only Parliament can fix Canada’s pipeline impasse

Lots of callers on Ontario Today (CBC radio one at noon call in show) saying they voted Conservative but DoFo overstepped with this move.

The rest of Ontario is pretty much worthless without Toronto in the picture. He needs Toronto, but still wants to land a few shots at the City that spurned him (and John Tory for not paying a portion of the election costs he incurred).
