Just wait til Jordan runs for PM
What is his urgency here? All his government has to do is mandate this change for the next municipal election and he is legally covered and the city can properly assess and plan for it. Instead he wants to invoke a controversial clause and recall parliament to make sure its done ASAP. Why should the rest of the province care? Aren't there other pressing issues his government should be looking at that affects all Ontarians? This is deeply personal to him.
What does all this even mean? Will the upcoming election be for the lower amount of wards or the higher amount?
Lower. After he has the party vote on invoking the NWSC in the legislature on Wednesday.
Ford: "I would never imagine in a million years, a democratically elected government, by 2.3 million people, being overturned by one appointed judge. That's shocking."
Smyth: "But that's the judicial system."
Ford: "That is absolutely shocking to me."
Globe editorial: A bad law, a worse ruling and Doug Ford’s tantrum to top them both
^ This editorial sums up my view of all this. I think the judge's decision on Charter grounds was incorrect, and that Ford should respect the judicial decision and challenge it via appeal.
Again, what is his goddamn rush to do this? Clearly he thinks this is the opportunity for his allies to snag up enough seats that Dougie can now rule Toronto. None of this would be an issue if he just said, next election these are the rules. But no, Dougie needs to control Toronto. What a farce.
