You've seen him at the Gallery, you've seen him at TIL and has played many small and medium venues in between, but tonight Nathan had a chance to show his stuff off infront of familiar and most importantly those new ears that only go to the GUV for the experience. And from his first track to his last he really played to the crowd taking us through his vast library of beats and rythms.

He played through the 2 o'clock hour and the floor began cheering for Lawler, who must have been running a little behind. But as soon as he showed up he was ready to play. He is such a cool customer behind those decks and took us on a journey of dark and rythmic beats. A little latin house to spice things up as well.

In it's expected state the Guv was rammed; so after an hour into Lalwer's set most of my crew wanted to break out and just head to Sonic. But before they could leave they made a bee line to the Sky Bar where Manzone and Strong's set was givng them enough to stay to the end. So as soon as they called me I decided I would join them but not before travelling to the Gallery where Addy was giving his all and Sydney was playing a new sound. A really good crowd in there as well. But then again it is the Gallery a place that can stand on its own.

So its the 3rd Satruday into the official summer months and yet it was like 14c outside. Many brave souls tolerated the late fall temperatures, but as soon as the crowd started to build for the Sunrise set things got a little more comfortable. Nathan returned to deliver another solid performance and Lawler had a program that seemed timed to the sun rising. It was no Sasha Lawler set of last year but he kept the pace going to the very last song, leaving everybody chanting for an encore offical shutdown was 8:15 AM. Trainspotters if you were able to jot down his traklist of that set would love to see it. technics1200

All in all it was a great time; it was refreshing to dance in the sunlight and abnormally cool summer morning.

Lawler was sick! Totally hammered it all night long and then ripped up the skybar...very good warm up by Mr. Barato....I was the tall blonde a head over the crowd in the yellow shirt just mashing it all night....met more great people and hooked up with many other guv regulars....Lawler actually killed "the fear" of sun and morning and got me to totally embrace the sunrise
Wicked Wicked Wicked - and Lawler's new cd (listened to on the way home) absolutely banging.....been a trio of killer nights, A&B Hawtin and Lawler....warmin it up for Zabiela

There was an certain energy in the air last night.. it felt like one of the big long weekend special events to me.

The club was packed, the music was top notch in all rooms, the people were freindly and up for it. simply awesome night!

Props to Nathan for a great set in the Guv, props to Addy for a slammin set in Gallery as well, enjoyed hearing some oldies thrown in there as well! As usual Mr. Lawler threw down proper.. seemed to have the place in the palm of his hand.

Made my exit some time after 3.. missed Sydney Blu in Gallery and Lawler's set on skybar.. I'm sure they were great though! props to toby, melissa, tara, Larisa and everyone else I saw/met!

OK. That was an awesome night / morning.

Last night reminded me why Steve has been ONE of if not my favorite DJS for the LONGEST time. Steve threw down track after track of some of the craziest, dirtiest, most upfront vibed-up house music out there which had the crowd eating out of the palms of his hands. There were a lot tunes that I heard for the first time and then there were a few signature Lawler crowd pleasers thrown in there as well.

Steve took to the decks inside of Guvernment a little after 2am and he played for a little under 3 hours. It was a prototypical Lawler set from start to finish, filled with lots of big driving tech / electronic house sounds. At times it was dark and twisted but there were also some warm melodies thrown in there to balance things out. Once the set in the main room was done it was time to head up to Skybar for round 2 and another 3 hour set from Steve.

And just like last year “the King of Space” rocked the shit out of the place! He started off nice and deep and before long he was dropping the big bombs that had all of Skybar going off to the music. It was funky ass shakin pimped up to fuck house tunage all morning long from Lawler. The Skybar set was definitely more funkier and vocally but it still maintained that raw Lawler edge to it. Needless to say, I loved loved LOVED the music up on Skybar and it looked like Steve was really enjoying himself up there as well.

I heard soooooooo many hot tracks last night BUT the ones that stuck out the most with me were:

-Ernest Saint Laurent – Do Ya Dub (if this isn’t a quintessential terrace tune then I don’t know what is, that bassline kills me everytime … )
-Pete Heller – Simpler (the tune with the never-ending buildup)
-Rodamaal - Insomnia [Ame mix] (pure dark + twisted underground vibes with this one)
-This one HUGE big room track that he layers “house is a feeling” over … mental.

Easily the best night out I’ve had this year.

find it. keep it. work it. share it.

:D

It was a great party both his main room set and the one at Skybar. Was anyone lucky enough to get one of those promo CD's that he tossed out to the crowd at Skybar? He gave them out in Montreal on the 8th as well.

arrived at 4am and entered the sweatshop they call the Guv, the place was going off people everywhere and a heat you couldn't shake, within 5 minutes it was time for another shower. The music inside was great and the crowd ate it up.

@ 5am we moved to the patio and secured our spot in the south east corner, this is when the real party began, bomb after bomb of solid tracks. It was great people watching and actually being outside with lots of friendly faces was a nice change of pace.

Watching the sunrise was something else, it makes you realize just how lucky we are to live in Toronto and what a great city it is. The Skybar is one of the most underrated patios in the city, if I could I would go there every Sunday morning.

Also I saw the one they call Kinger, that alone was worth the price of admission.

Steve Lawler never disappoints!

He threw down a great set in the guv which kept everybody moving, directly into my way, which came as no surprise since I was at the Guv.
As ev said the energy was palpable Saturday night in the main room and in the gallery, which Addy ripped apart as usual. I

I missed the skybar set as well, I was a Lawlered out after a long day. But I doubt this is the last time we’ll see Steve doing a sunrise set in T.O.

As I was making my way downtown Saturday night, I had a feeling something special, something unique was about to go down...and did it ever. Got in around midnight, and Nathan Barato had the main room just bumpin'...it's been said many times already in this thread, but Barato is simply awesome when it comes to track selection/programming...never a track out of place, imo...and he's also one of the most personable guys around, not an ounce of ego, and that's refreshing to see. The times were slighty adjusted for the night, as Lawler came on around 2ish, as opposed to 1, but that didn't change a damn thing!

The room was electrified the moment Steve came on, and yeah it was packed/etc, but should anyone be surprised? Regardless, Lawler dropped the dark and dirty. Right from the get go it was big room tracks, big room sound, and the crowd was goin' OFF! Part way through his set we ventured down to the dancefloor, and they proceeded to literally flood the entire room with the cooling jets/mist, and there were times when I couldn't even see the person beside me, just surrounded by fog...awesome. Heard a few recognizable tracks, and yes, that Rodamaal - Insomnia track is a monster...a big tune for sure.

There were a couple of rumours floatin' around that because of a variety of factors, they weren't gonna do the skybar thing, and move it to the drink...given that, I was up on the balcony near the drink doors at the end of his Guv set, prepared to get a decent spot in the drink...and that's when Lawler came on the mic, and announced that he'll see us up in the Skybar, which was great to hear. IMO, his Skybar set was just as good as his Guv set, if not better...the 3 hours up there seemed way too short.

And as others of have mentioned, Skybar is easily one of the best venues in the city, and VERY under-used...the moment the sun broke the horizon was priceless, and dancing under the morning sun with friendly, familiar faces all around is something you just can't put to words. Ev, Tara, Manda, Adrian, Chris, Stan, Shawn (with Dorota in tow;)), Matt and everyone else who was there, always a pleasure...and a special thanks to my partner in crime for the night, my girl Remy...so glad she made the trek from Buffalo for this one:)

p.s. pics to come soon...

p.p.s. hats off to whoever booked those naughty schoolgirls to shake their dirty bits up on the skybar...always a pleasure to see at 7am, lol.

Skybar IS open every week.
not sure why that is misunderstood in here.
great party. Drink was bangin all night, as were Barato and Lawler in the mainroom, as was Deko-Ze in Gallery. I got around mofo.
met a bunch of tribers. dr claw, the Doctor, Special K I think, Thumpr (this deserves its own thread, but when asked 'why Thumpr?', he brilliantly replied "because I thump." awesome.) and others whom Im forgetting.

we know it's open every week but only as part of the complex, I'm specifially talking about it being open on it's own say Thursday nights where I can go party it up.

They used to run a thursday night party there a few years back, maybe they still do. I seem to remember quite a few sponsored events and fashion shows at the skybar on thursday nights during the summer.

I don't have much to add. It was fun. I was stoned. I forgot what a broad selection of people the guv attracts. Seemed sketchier than "the venue". Lawler played some great buzzy electro funk stuff at the beginning then seemed to get a little too melodic for me at the end but maybe if I had been up all night I would've appreciated that style at the time. Personally I thought that radiohead track was a little cheesy and not in a good way but there were plenty of other awesome tracks.

I had my lighter in the air for the radiohead track, but for reasons totally independent of the track (seagulls).

That sucked about how you got that yolk-less Sausage McMuffin with Egg afterwards, you should have complained.

It also sucked that they wouldn't allow me to go onstage with my schoolgirl uniform, they were wrong to assume that I would be making a fool of myself.
