Going to the DOminican on the 27th of December and I need some info on things to do and where to go.

Staying at the Jack Tar in Puerto Plata. I was told the Jeep Safaris rock and to book one of those. Also anyone do any golfing down there?

Whats the smoek situation in Dominican?

Should I bring candy and toys for the kiddies?

Any info is greatly appreciated.

Doing one of those jeep things is always cool.

They've usually got a half day swimming with nurse shark thing that you should check out for sure.

Bring toys for the kids of the people who work at the resort. They'll appreciate it for sure.

Oh, they like basketball jerseys lots and lots.

Look for guys walking around, selling big ugly paintings on the beach. Not the ones in little booths, but the ones walking around with like 50 velvet elvis paintings under their arm.

The Jeep Safaris are definitely fun. We booked a group tour, so we could drink on the Jeep instead of driving. The views were amazing, and our tour guides were great.

There's also some really good snorkelling opportunities, if you're into that thing.

I didn't get any opportunities to smoke down there, aside from a couple of cigars and a pack of Marlboros, so no help there.

Enjoy it! That was the best vacation I've had in a long long time...

re: smoke situation, i hate to be a killjoy, but i've heard some nasty stories about north americans having weed troubles in DR. apparently, under cover cops try to sell weed to tourists, and then arrest them. i've also heard about an american in jail in DR (which is surely not luxurious), after his cleaning lady found a roach in him room. so be careful.

definitely bring stuff for the kids. gum, candy, toys.

lots of golfing in DR, and casinos too.

i took a jeep tour and went into a village, where we were able to go into a dairy town house, and see authentic life. we spent the afternoon on a private ranch, went horseback riding on the beach. it was really lovely. and our tourguide was amazing. got to ask alot of questions, and learn a bit about local culture.

have a great time! :)

don't drink water from the tap.

consider getting a rabies shot if there are dogs in your area or if you plan on getting attacked by animals.

don't take any wooden pesos.

Golf there is expensive. But if you got the bucks for it, go for it.

Also, you can scuba dive down there without certification. They'll give you lessons in the pool and then take you on a dive sometime later.

They won't take you lower then 10 meters (so you don't have to come back up in stages to repressurize) but it's still one of the best experiences I've ever had and highly suggest it.

That's probably really good advice.

I never ever ever do any smoking when I'm travelling. I always get offered all sorts of shit, but I'm a bit paranoid and figure the risk is much higher then the reward.

I got some smoke down there from one of the "entertainment coordinators" at our resort.

the bottom line from my experience:

It was really expensive.

It was really weak.

Stick to the free and unlimited booze!

Mingster is dead on with that. It's true the locals work with the police to set people up selling the herb.
I witnessed this in Punta Cana, and I still have no idea what happened to the 3 dudes....

and people that worked on the resort warned us over & over again to NEVER attempt buying anything from a local.

so.yah.

IMO, while snorkelling is fun and all, it doesn't even hold a candle to diving.

I think it cost us $50 for the lesson and dive.

I was in Punta Cana last year. I bought some shitty ass weed from some guy, the shit didn't even really get me high. We had brought a ball of hash from Toronto, and thank god we had it. We still managed to smoke every day, which is so much fun in the sun with the booze flowing. The weed I did get, was very tough to get and not worth the hassle. Bring some of your own shit on the DL and you'll be fine. Just enjoy the nice weather and all of the booze!!! :)

I can't say we did much aside from drink, eat, sleep, chill and play sports all day. We didn't leave the resort....there was enough fun and trouble to be had! ;)

that's where i stayed! at sosua by the sea. :)

ps. it facking sucks that a person has to go on vacation and have such trouble smoking a doob. i mean, what could be nicer than blazing on a caribbean beach, or by a waterfall? such a shame. not that you need it to have fun, but it's definitely a pisser.

If you get a chance to go into Santo Domingo (sometimes hotels have night tour buses or if you have a rental)

go to Guacara Taina

It's this giant nightclub built inside a natural cave. The sound is awesome inside not mention the good lookin peoples. It's definitely an experience

Wow! I need to go to that cave on New Years!

Ming I agree nothing better then enjoying the natural greenery on a beach while sipping on some rum.

I need to make a return back to the motherland...Jamaica! Golfing and hitting the greens was quite the experience!
