That was immediately after an hour in a off-leash dog park.

Derby does that too!

our pup is now 7 months old and is crazy hyper. We thought he would calm down, but not yet! I'm not sure about this 4-5 months age... Fraps is very consistent with Derby ALL the time. LOL

i have osme news for you, my dog is 2 next week and he's still like this. I'll never try to curb it because I think it's more of who he is now and he is not destructive so I really don't care. but at the same time he's just as happy cuddling and passing out like a parrot on my shoulder

Sorry to hear this I have a Rottie myself and is trying my best to avoid HD. Sometimes it's from genetics.

Rottweiler Discussion Forums

some topics on HD and what other people are doing,^^^^^^^^

I know there's a powder out there that people are rubbing onto their dogs legs and it helps with the pain. I have a boxer in my area with HD and a Bull Mastiff that's going in for ACL repair they're using the powder and it works.

I'll try and get the name of it then PM you.

Thank you! :)

Penny,

Rotti owner too (part-time owner these days really) and he has shown the beginning signs of mild hip dysplasia. He's 7. Around 3 years ago he started to cry when getting up from a lie down position. We've been keeping him physically active, with low-impact activities. We take him swimming in the summer too and he loves it. We've also been supplementing his diet with shark cartilage and. in over a year, we haven't heard him cry at all when getting up.

The best bet is to talk to your vet and find out what is best for your pup, but I agree with Musical Rush, Recovery SA has had some very good results.

You have a small dog? Expect him to calm down a little bit when he's closer to the age of 2.5years or even 3.5years of age, and even then it won't be to the level you might be expecting.

You have to look at it as compared to it's life expectancy, small dogs live longer than big dogs and will mature at a slower pace, their brain will achieve it's teens later in life than a medium sized dog, and even more so than a large breed. Also the breed's potential intellect will have an affect on this time period as well. And if your dog is naturally high strung, then watch out. Could be a long time. You just need to channel the energy in constructive activities and passtimes or toys.

Also remember that a 10lb dog expends a lot less energy running around in 10 minutes than a 45lb dog, or a 75lb dog in the same amount of time.

It's one of the reasons I prefer medium/large breeds. But small dogs can live twice to three times as long as a large breed.

Ya, The Derb will eventually calm down to cudde, but he's still a maniac! Derby, the name definitely suits him :)

We originally thought getting him fixed would calm him, but not really. lol

Yes, Derby is 10/11 pounds. He's still very much like a true puppy. I caught him chewing my shoelaces the other day (which is new for him), and he tends to get over-excited when he sees other dogs. We have to hold him back immensely. He can barely say hi without jumping at them hoping they will play.

He's hilarious, but sometimes I think: "We took you for a long walk/or went to dog park and you played/run around for 2 hours! How can you still be hyper!?"

It makes me wish we had a bigger place, but that's why we got a small dog in the first place. A bigger dog in here is just cruel.

The way people drive now a days I'd feel much safer sharing the road with a dog.

Or socks and underwear

LOL!

I blame my husband. I found a picture on his cellphone of Derby when he was a lot younger! These are clean undies of his he gave him to try and divert him from going after the clean laundry!! He taught him to do it! Bastard!! He also makes tug-of-war toys out of our old odd socks.

He trained him this way. Way to go DH.

I also heard that dogs do this when they've been taken from their litter too soon *shrug*

It just really pisses me off.

My g/f and I picked this little guy up last night. He's such a riot.

9 weeks old, and apparently the breed is "Olde English Bulldogge" (yes, that's the spelling apparently lol) which is a new-ish breed that mixes English bullies, mastiff, terrier and American bulldog but the English bully is the most predominant breed in the mix.

We still haven't settled on a name yet though, but the little guy is adjusting well to his new home.
