I have never gone out so solely to hear one DJ at an event and been so impressed with all the other components of the party.
I showed up and Mike Price was spinning techno. I had never heard of him before and I was incredibly impressed. He had my head boppin' and my ass shakin' for the whole set.
Then Ruckus came on the decks... now this man's reputation precedes him. Hes a huge character, especially behind the decks. His set was HARD and BANGIN'. i love the kind of stuff he plays but my only complaint is that i didnt feel the set was actually going anywhere. kinda the same thing repeated throughout. but to be honest, the man had the impossible task of keeping everyone's attention in the minutes leading up to DJ Funk.
Now, i dont know if you have ever been so pumped to see a single DJ as i was last night. alot of people laugh at me and think that booty house is lame, but i don't care. DJ Funk was absolutely incredible. and the crowd knew it! i have never seen london so rightfully psyched - cheering, arms waving - the whole bit. The floor tiles were vibrating from the bass the second he laid down his first track! he played all wicked Funk signature tracks for 2 hours... at one point, i was getting a wee bit tired after dancing for so long continuously so i turned around to discover my friend k8's breaker friends from sarnia had arrived and were starting a cirle directly behind me.... so we watched the breakers for a while, and damn! they were doing some wicked shit.
then, back to the set... *sigh* i can't even express how good it was... i was in heaven.
this wicked guy Tom and i just kept repeating "i hope this never ends!" to each other all night.
Rich Bailey had the even more infinitely impossible task of following DJ Funk's booty assault...
now i was expecting to walk outta there happy after DJ Funk. but no, this guy also laid down a great set! the wicked music just didnt stop all night!
anyway, there's more... their system was the best i have seen at a London party.... so loud! so much bass! so huge!
the lighting was *intelligent* to say the least. these guys know how to use graphics and projector screens lemme tell ya.
they were layering graphics of the DJs name with other visuals... then they were filming the crowd in a really stylized way, and overlapping that video with more graphics..... it was sweet.
the venue was wicked... it was a little dirty but it was new, big enough and interesting. (old arcade right downtown)
i can't even tell you how impressed i am today... this party was fantastic. i had the time of my life.
its nights like this and ATM Reunion 2000 that make it seem like jadedness is for chumps.
