He used to rinse out the rotterdam version of Madonna, Like a prayer. We used to lose our shit over that track.
That would be "Life Is A Mystery" by Eraserhead.

1. dominik now spins dark jungle
2. he still works at HMV
3. he still wears fat-shpants
4. he still wears baby blue toques with ear flaps.
5. dominik was and still is one of the most technically skilled deejays the toronto rave scene ever saw. he spun rotterdam like it was fucking battle breaks. CUTS LIKE AN AXE!
6. DAYN - if i find that tape deck i can rip you some Dominik sets along with that John E set i have.

b

Yeah Get the John E sets up here please! I played with that guy back before the 2000, but I actually don't have any of his stuff. I would enjoy listening to his old sets!

as a side note to the comments about not knowing some DJ's who were BIG in Toronto and/or the world. I too think its kinda funny when some people in the House scene don't know some people.

I DJ'd at TOI in the past summer during a competition hosted by club246. I won the first night BTW :D and I got talking to this other competitor who was really a very nice guy before he had went on. He said he was going to play some House with some Jackin or Funky breaks. I was like "So you know John E" and he was like "who????" Strange?????

I got thinking... how does one not know or at least heard of him, especially if you are in the scene and you play breaks. Doesn't make sense... What ever music you listen to if you are heavily involved would cause you to know at least some history of the music or the DJ/Producer.

When I talk to my friends in the new age underground bands (Walk of the earth, Idol Suns and G-Spot Tornado)... their not like "who is tool" "who is korn" ... "who are the beatles"

This scene has evolved kinda fast as some or most of us don't even know about it if it was longer than like ~ 10 years ago.

I think it makes sense. With underground music there is much less distribution, promotion and audience. It tends to create a pretty big disconnect between the different scenes.

If you love commercial house music and go out every week to hear it, you might not know anything about Chicago house, or french house, ect. Also, a local act like John E or Dominik doesn't have their latest release flashed in the face of potential puchasers ever, unless it's at the event they are playing.

Plus, a lot of people in club land are just there to hear some beats and get fucked up. Not everyone takes the time to read the flyer, find out who the DJ is or what they are playing, or how the sound they are playing evolved.
