Sweet mother of creatures big and small....
There is a reason why I have always stated that DJ Dan is my favourite DJ. Period. Just to get nostalgic on your ass for a second but Dan's "Funk The System" was the first music from the scene that I ever bought. I instantly fell in love and heard all other DJ's spinning his tunes from that EP. From then on...the boy is absolutely SICK from seeing him at Moonshine Over America, to Jet nightclub, to Turbo, to Industry, to Connected Raves....I feel that no one tops this man on the decks.
Last night was no exception. I got there early to avoid disappointment at around 9:30 and was not surprised to see a line up already happening. Doors opened at around 10:05 and I parked my ass right next to the speaker on the left. I decided that I ain't movin' for nobody.
Now we all know that Mad Bar is a space that is quite small and has a tendency to overheat. I was surprised with the mix of people and how quickly this venue started to burst at the seems with steaming flesh. But it was to be expected....my boy was coming on.
Big props goes out to Myka... No warm up floor filler here (See Ian Pooley thread and his Walmart Muzak). Myka, in hard house fashion, built a solid foundation of beats to keep the crowd pumpin' and jiving their bodies. This boy can play too so don't front on your Toronto DJ's. So good to see Kenny Glaslow boppin' in the back to Myka's set as well. The anticipation of Dan's appearance is starting be overwhelming.
Wait...is that him? I think it is. The little pudgy white dude with a hat made his way to the decks with his boxes of records to the chants of "DJ DAN..DJ DAN"...
That's where I realized after all this time of partying in clubs jumping to see this DJ and that DJ and suffering constant disappointment, the time for audio annihilation is right fucking now!!! This is the moment I have waited for. Finally I get to see my favourite DJ up close and personal. He did not disappoint me for one second. That hard, electro-robotic, techno, funk shit is what I like to hear. Non-stop beats with fast BMP's were also in order for the evening. His programming is absolutely impeccable. The wind from the speaker was rattling pants as I bust a move on the floor. The guy is so serious as well. He rarely looks up to see what's going on. He just grabs the next disc and is ready to pump.
Whew!
Ok....so I had to eventually take a piss. The bottles were rattling and buzzing as they fell off the speakers. The people who I waited with in line were dancing their asses off....but there were some "undesirables" who were trying to physically move me from my spot. Fuck that bitch who kept on trying to grab my glasses and being coy enough to try and step in front of me to block my view. I still ain't moving (apart from dancing) even though they put these stupid evergreen trees in front of the turntable podium. Shit I think I've got some foliage rubbing my crotch! I would rather be humping the speaker.
At around 2am...the place started to clear. Perhaps the rest of the crowd had had enough. Perhaps they could not handle the mayhem that Dan was subjecting us too. Suddenly there was room to move....and now that I had my arms as well as my feet moving to the plethora of beats and electronic bleeps, it now felt like a party. What a party it was! You could tell who the real heads and die hards were and who also believe this DJ is top notch!
Time restraints had me worried about leaving. I couldn't find my way to door until Dan's magical set ended. Dripping with sweat from the emulsification of fat off of my body from jacking my body to the beats all night.....I went up to the man of the hour, shook his hand, and expressed why he was my fav and will always be.
Thank you DJ Dan...
As I wake up this morning, my body still hurts,....I think I am gonna have to pass on the gym today and my lovely wife Misstress Barbara tonight.
Time to recover....
