Dj Dan and Others at the Guv

Perfect.

The only way to describe the night. I wish I had my camera, finally I was at the guv and I wasn't squished. Personally I had a great time listening to Luke Fair, Red Turtle, Czech and of course Dj Dan. One of the best sets I've ever heard from him in years, started off nice with some hard disco and got harder and harder and FUCKING HARDER! Midway through his set I couldn't believe the pounding funky tekno he threw down. A great mix of many known tracks and many amazing unknown tracks- I especially liked the remixes of Movin' Through Your System, Sweet Dreams, and Set it Off. I Love charlies.... so nice, great soundsystem- EVERYONE GO CHECK IT OUT REGARDLESS IF YOU LIKE BREAKBEATS!!

Night couldn't have been better cept if a certain someone didnt have her wisdom teeth out :(

anthony pappa stole the show in the kool haus in my opinion. howells was his usual engergetic kickass self, but i dunno, im not really diggin' the stuff he's playing in his headline sets lately. i would love to catch him with an extended sets though, cause he has a very diverse taste in music which is great!

lots of smokin ladies and super friendly people as well. had to leave cause my legs were dying on me...twas a good night though!

There is a god, and his name is Danny Howells.

What a great night. Started off by wandering in to Charlie's to see DJ Happy Face (as the gf calls him) aka Red Turtle throw down some tracks. Moved over to Kool Haus to stay for the rest of the night.

Nice set by Pappas. Made up for the last time I saw him when he spun at System and blew chunks.

I wanted to check out DJ Dan for a bit, but the Guv crowd was just not worth it. I knew there was a reason why I didn't go to Guv on a Sat night. Good thing DJ Dan plays here every couple of months. So I'll get to see him soon enough.

Now time for the man of the hour. Howells came on around 3, taking over for Pappas. Immediate change in the tone and direction of the music. Started off playing some really good prog but eventually moved over into some nice techy beats. He started dropping New Order's Blue Monday in the background. It made for a nice teaser until he finally dropped the track.

I would have stayed longer but someone was getting tired. Took off around 5:30.

Can't wait for Howells to come back. The man never disappoints.

Wicked night.

Wow!!

After being poked and proded to come out last night my lack of alertness this morning is well worth it. Such a great night!! I stayed in the Breaks room for most of the night with a few pauses to see Howells and Dj Dan. Thank-you czech for playing the funkiest set I have heard in ages!! I truly needed to cut loose after a hard week and it was just what I needed. Here are some of my favourite pics from the night:

Off the Hook!

DAMN! What a great night of music!! The vibe was off the hook in charlie's but wish i could say the same about the Guv. Dan got down and dirty with some of his tracks!!!! Never disappoint......Czech rocked the breaks room and the night finished with a kick ass set from Dmonic. Kev, awsome set to start the night. I definitely know it' s hard ass when I saw Decepticon dancin his asssss off:eek: (you know Im buggin ya ;) ) It was so good to see everybody out, especially all the Barrie Boys........Anyways, overall kickass night that' i'm payin for at work right now:rolleyes: See all of ya at the Jackass studio party and a long ass night with Donald glaude (wha wha)

great night. I was too tired and had too much to do to today to stay very late, (left right after pappa). Danny h has been one of my favorites for some time now..so when i saw him on stage in his cute little hat, smiling like he does, i knew i was going to be missing a good set.

HOWEVER, I still had an amazing night. PAPPA rocked it. I'd never seen him live before and I was blown away. I spent almost his whole set rocking out in front of the stage. I made my own little crew of pappa superfans. The KH wasn't too busy so i had tons of space to bust moves. My feet were really sore (yeah yeah..i should wear runners not massive platforms- even strangers felt compelled to tell me) but I had such an amazing time..i liked the darker direction he took the set more towards the end, and how he finshed w/ an electro-y sound. I liked the breaks at the beginning...i just really really liked his whole set.

a big thank you to JT for bringing us on stage:)

It was great to see some you out. I hope you all enjoyed yourselves as much as i did.

What a fun night: Czech, Mariah Carey and a fetus lamp :D Hoooyah

Good to see a few people out there disregarding their academic duties as well ("it's amazing how one can rationalize anything" - Gunark).

Thanks for a great night Dan (rage out....more rage!! AHHHHH!!!
 ).

Opps. Didn't even recognise you last night. I think I saw you and your friend in Charlies last night when we were in there for a bit. Didn't click.

Good times indeed lastnight. I haven't been out in ages, and it's made me realize how much i've missed my friends. ANYWAYS.. Thanks to janice for introducing dj Dan to me and Smiley Jo. Hahah jo was so nervous hehe she was practically hiding behind me.
As for dan's set. It was everything that i've come to love about this man's style over the years. Funky, hard, basslines, filtered, breaky, u name it. My only problem is that i'm gettting to old now and i needed him to pitch it down a tad so i could keep up with my dancing lol.

damn, sounds like i missed a good night, but didn't get back into the city from my big fat (& boring) greek wedding until near 3am, so i wouldn't have made it down to the guv til around 4am...good to hear solid reviews about pappa, it sounds like he's turned it around...would love to hear more about howells set...

Really shouldn't have gone because of exams and whatnot, BUT... After Anthony Pappa' 'BestSetOf2002' @ RedSquare a year ago, I had to go. Sure enough, the man laid down a great one. Textbook opener for Howells. I got there right for the beginning of it, where he was warming up the near-empty KoolHaus with a nice breaky, techy, funky groove. And as the room filled up he got harder (of course). Hard tribal beats, then deeper and harder, then into some breaky and electro-influenced material @ the end; what a set. He was technically tight too. That man throws down some huge mixes, I swear! Former World DMC champ, what!
Crowd was into things too. There being lotsa room for dancing (I think Guv musta lost a lot of $$$), people were quite into things. Wow. Good night :)

What a great night! :D

My first time at Charlies and I was VERY impressed- great space Dan! Turtle started the night off perfectly... but as soon as Dj Dan came on I had to make my way over the the Guv. Dan played an awesome set- even dropped some breaks... and there was actually room to dance! From there on it was a mad dash back and forth to see Czech and Dan, both were tearin it up! Ended up staying till 4 (way later then I had planned) and just as I was leaving Dan started playing even harder!!! Ahhh I didn't want to leave....damn work!

absolutely dannylicious!

good lord that was an excellent night :D my face hurts from so much smiling!

we got in around 11 and it was uber dead inside, which was a little disheartening, but luke fair's set was fantastic. i loved it. too bad there weren't more people though. it started to fill up a bit more for pappa, who was also really really good. i was very impressed, and i'd only really heard bad things about pappa, so it was a pleasant surprise to see that he didn't suck at all.

but now onto more important things: DANNY HOWELLS

all the times i've seen him, he never ever fails to impress. every time he reminds me of why he is my absolute favourite dj ever. my feet hurt so much, but i couldn't stop dancing. he was ridiculously good. when i heard the drums from blue monday being mixed in, i freaked out, but then i thought i was just imagining it, cos i'm always thinking tracks are being mixed in and they're not. then finally, like 10 minutes later, there it was. biggest tease ever. it was great! i've been getting to hear that track a lot lately, which is nice. also, the crowd was very friendly as well. no issues with anyone and no stalkers! YAY!

also got a chance to chat with danny before his set cos he noticed my "i *heart* dh" shirt and waved me over. then later on during his set, there was this other odd conversation:
Danny: "So do you still love me?"
Manda: "um...YEAH"
Danny: (can't hear half of what he is saying)...says something about playing quite hard tonight
Manda: "It's excellent!"
Danny: "So you still love me then?"
Manda: "Of course!"
Danny: "Well, I still love you too!"

He's crazy, i love it!!!!! seriously, what girl wouldn't love her husband :p and he's still my "style inspiration". his ensemble last night was great.

such a good night, i can't wait till he comes back.

Ended up going last minute after being prodded and it was so worth it. Wicked crew out and about. Good times indeed. Much damage was done on the tequila tip.

I liked the fact that you could move between all the rooms fairly easily. The crowd was great and friendly for the most part.

Music was great. Red Turtle rocked it. After hearing a lot of people slag Anthony Pappa and me not really being into his sound, I have to say that I was pretty impressed by the tracks he was laying down for the times I was in the Koolhaus. Howells was on point as well.

However, spent most of the night at Charlies where Czech dropped one of the most eclectic sets I've heard. The Metallica rifs. Wow. Crazy. He had the crowd going off. Twist's Angus from AC / DC impersonations once thunderstruck was dropped was dope as well.

Good times. Good times indeed.

I guess I must have been at a different party Saturday night as that was the single worst set I have ever heard from Danny Howells. No direction, was hammered out of his skull, bumping the decks more than once, and looping this static sound for more than a minute while he chased some chick in the back. He played some pretty cool tracks and you can never complain about his mixing even when he smashed, but I was dissapointed with the night.

Pappa was on but I think his sound suits more of a small dark club than the Kool Haus. Luke had a nice warm up set as well.
Also weird not seeing the Kool Haus fill up till about 1:00am.
