the official tribe digital camera is the canon elph (s110 or the older s100)

how much do you wanna spend?
what do you plan on using it for?
is auto everything fine, or do you like manual control?

ive never owned a camera before.. but im pretty handy with photoshop.. (hence my interest).. so automatic is probally a wiser bet..

ideally i would like to spend under $500 (if possible)..

I have the canon digital elph s100

I bought at vistek in december for $450 before tax, but I would recommend buying a 64 meg card with it!

check out the sony dsc-p50
might suit your needs, and its in your price range.
try to find someone who can get you a discount, like a friend.

2.1 megapixels btw.

i'd say go to a place like FutureShop that has a bunch on display and try to figure out what you think you need and just get a general idea what is offered for the price range you are interested in. this is a good way to begin, then go to a website to get further into details about each camera.

i have an s100 as well and key things for me were rechargeable batteries, at least 2 megapixels, various capture sizes (640x480, 1028x864, 1600x1200), compact flash or smart card (as opposed to sony memory stick), optical zoom (strictly digital zoom is useless).

Feels kinda dumb asking...

What's a megapixel?

I too am in the market for a digi cam. But I might just go with an Advantix cam and just get photocd's with my prints.

 <---- Is that a dumb idea or what?

think of it this way - you have your regular zord, then you have your MEGAzord
SuperZeoMegazord.jpg

it's like a regular pixel, only much MUCH BIGGER!

okay, really ... a digital camera takes pictures as a large number of pixels or dots. the more pixels that you can get the sharper the image. mega just means million. so if a camera has 2 megapixels of resolution it means that each picture is composed of 2 million separate points/dots/pixels.

All my pics are taken with like tommy said the Canon S100 Digital Elph.
I have a 128mb Card and typically it holds 200 or so photos at the highest resolution which is 1600x1200.

I have a 256mb Card, But I doubt I'll use that anytime soon.

I paid $650 for the camera and card thanks to Ian on here.

shit - i way overpaid apparently - mine was a xmas gift and the best deal i found was $689 with 2 mem cards (8 mb, 32 mb) with a shnazzy leather case

things to look for:
- rechargeable AA batteries vs. super litium ion (don't get screwed having to use only AA's)
- video (a cool option - i love it)
- at least 2.1 megapixels (1600x1200 resolution)
- at least 32 mb memory card

...the canon elph was the best for all these options, plus its smaller than most wallets, so you can carry it/sneak it anywhere you wanna go. plus, it shoots out this cool blue beam when you take flash shoots, and it freaks people out.

with the canon elph you can take sequential panoramic shots and use their photostitch program to create awesome panoramas....or..you could just chop the top and bottom off your pic in photoshop, depending on your vantage

I have the S110 basically same as the S100 ... the camera will just use any card that is compact flash card compliant.

1GB cards are out now
