Deep Dish + Q-bert @ the Warehouse

#1 surprise of the night: not a big turnout..!

iono...i figured there would have been more people there ...

They played the new Wave Twisters animated movie just before Q-bert took to the decks...
that really got the crowd hyped! i've waited years to see the movie! finally..my life is complete...

Then Q-bert was up..for the half an hour or so that he spun, he managed to keep the crowd completely in awe...damn, he moves fast! he seemed to be having fun up there...he was all smiles..

then came the legendary duo, Deep Dish...
wow...this has to be one of my favorite house sets in recent memory...the crowd was jumping...the music was just what i expected...nice progressive beats, mixed with some snazzy vocals..oh yea....

Hugh C was on after Deep Dish...and although i had heard of him, i had never seen him spin before...i was impressed..definately a local to keep my eyes on

the party ended at 5am...kinda sucky...but hey...i got my money's worth and felt 100% satisfied..

the Venue was the Warehouse...big venue...lotsa space...nice lighting...and nice sound in the main room...the various projectors shooting out trippy graphics were a nice touch...

i hope there will be more Elysium Prod. parties in the future...this is a company i will be keeping my eyes on

how many people were at this party??

Hugh C isn't from Toronto, he's from Detroit.
I saw him there on Wendsday at the Oakenfold party there. He played right after Oakie with some guy named courtney.

Wow, Timo Maas had more people and it was on a wednsday nite, plus the guy can't even hold a candle to Deep Dish spinning out. I can't figure it out.

Qbert was incredible, that shit is crazy. He was on for about 30min but while they waited for him to set up, they put on his videos???
Crazy lull to the party.

I was pretty hype for Deep Dish so nothing was gonna get me down, and when they popped up at around 2:40 or so, I was pretty relieved. There were rumors going around that the promoters had troubles paying Deep Dish and that they were'nt gonna play. They played for a little less than 2 hrs and at 5am they shut things down.

Deep Dish's set rocked it hard, and they were just getting it going when they stopped and Hugh C came on. Strange party. But I had fun none the less.

Hung with Gizmo, Delovely88, Par-t(that boy never sleeps), and met Basic, and Nesta for the 1st? time.

This scene is wierd. Deep Dish is one of the best acts in the business. Where was everyone?

I don't understand why they had such a dismal turnout. At first I thought it was poorly promoted but then I remembered that I've seen loads of fliers and have known about it for months.

It was a well put together party. Good sound for the warehouse. Good visuals. I had a good time.

It's disappointing that Deep Dish wasn't more of a draw.

I think part of the poor attendance was the $30 they were charging (kind of steep in my opinion) and the other part could have something to do with the U.S. Thanksgiving.

Either that or everyone's saving up for their Xma$ $hopping.

Stepping over my pile of bills.

I think making it 19+ was a huge mistake. Unless you have a steady following of 19+ partiers (like Milk) then you have to rely on the kids to get your numbers up, especially at a space like the Warehouse.

I was especially surprised to hear about this party being at the Warehouse.

I thought that after the last Effective that space was no longer available?

Taken from the Deep Dish message board at www.deepdish.com

our sincere apologies go to those that came out to see us in toronto. there was much confusion and even greater shadyness going on with this event due to the promoter:--( we were told initially that we were to play the club and not the 'warehouse' and the staff at guvernment had allegedly failed to disclose this bit to those that were paying to get in to see us.

see u next time minus the drama...

I agree with Highsteppa, it might have been the $30 price tag. I was gonna go to this party, but I just can't afford that now.
Plus the low turnout may be a result of all of the college/university kids that are writing exams and term papers now.

Oooops! I forgot about Coleridge. Thanx for the cd old boy!

Sarah, Deep Dish, Qbert and Stretch and Hooker were pretty awsome, but the vibe at the party was lackin big time. Hardly any smiles on peoples faces at all. See what happens when you don't make it out to the right parties?

I didnt even know that this was an actual party until the day of...All I know is that as soon as I heard the words "Deep Dish", I was down...The price was a bit steep, but once I saw the flyer, whihc also included Q-bert AND Danny the Wildchild, I figured it was worth it...I got there, and the first thing I noticed was how empty it was...then I noticed how COLD it was in there...I made the mistake of checking my coat right away...within 30 minutes I had reclaimed it and wore it the rest of the night...There was no lineup posted anywhere so I'm not totally sure who was where when...Stretch and Hooker were on in the main room when I got there - not really my kind of house...I ended up spending alot of the night in the jungle room..and I think I was the only one who did...Danny the Wildchild was incredible, but theres just something odd about a jungle headliner playing to about five people...especially when those 5 people are all just trainspotting...When Q-Bert came on, I went up to the front to take a look...He was technically amazing, but I still do not think tunrtablists are an appropriate act at a party...it totally broke up the vibe and flow, as everyone kind of stood around and watched...Deep Dish was nothing special - only one of them was there, and I dont blame him if he wasnt in to the set, what with the shady promoters and the small crowd...Overall this is one of the most disspaointing parties I have been to in a long, long time...

I think when you have a venue like the Warehouse, you need to fill it up a bit more. There just wasn't enough energy on the floor to handle those deep house beats they were pounding us with. I wasn't captivated at all and will think twice about doing that venue again. Good sound indeed and good visuals, but that's it.

Don't think the party had such a good turnout due to the price factor. Who knows...or maybe there weren't enough headliners because Toronto's so spoiled.

How was Morse Code??

I think people are generally over-estimating the popularity of DEEP DISH in Toronto. I'm actually not surprised the turn-out was poor. Despite how talented they may be, DEEP DISH is relatively unknown among the masses, and well, you need masses to fill up the Warehouse.

Also ... from what I've noticed, Toronto parties have seen an overall drop in attendance regardless of headliners. That's another factor.

Deep Dish rock, and if people in Toronto don't know that, then they should educate themselves. Arguably the best DJ duo in the world and nobody shows, I was embarassed for the city of Toronto. This party had crazy potential, and I loved the fact that it was 19+. I still had fun, and it was cool seeing Suke and Fleaflo(BTW, I met you before at Turbo). I also met Delerium. Respect to those who did show and managed to have a good time. When you base your night on the music, it's kind of difficult to have a bad time. Deep Dish are the shit! Can't wait to hear them at a proper party and venue. Peace!

This was one wicked party. First things first. Q-bert got me so pumped, I had to sit down to contain myself. He was freakn amazing. I now have a new god and his name is DJ Q-Bert. I don't know what all the complaint is about the turn out. I thought it was a perfect turnout. Not disappointing but not jammed to the nuts. I thought it was perfect. One complaint. Why did my ticket cost me 33.75 while it was 25 at the door? Deep Dish had the crowd going for the rest of the night and they too had me amazed. Personally I liked the dude with the tooque on better than the other guy. Last but not least, I was kinda dissappointed that it ended at 5, so it's kinda unfair to say that I outdanced CosmicBoi like I always do. But I think I did.

Dear lord man, there must be another reason.
It was Deep Dish?
Deep Dish? Are you hearing me? The only other duo that even comes close is Tyrant. I just don't get it. Oh well more for me.

I was disappointed only because they left after 2hrs. It was just getting nasty when they left. It makes me so sad.
