I'm aware of the other thread, but uh, I don't know what you people were talking about. Something about not going and then a whole lot of poetry...
So seeing as I'm from the 'Loo and the first one home from this event (living all of 10 minutes away from club helps), I will be the first one to review this lurverly event.
My gf and I arrived at Rev around 10:45 or so to meet up with a pretty quick moving line. We stood in line for all of 5 minutes and then proceeded to waltz into the club FOR FREE because Rev lets you in free before 11 PM. This night was such a deal. No $5 beers, no molesting security and FREE before 11 PM to see the 10th ranked DJs in the world. What more could you ask for?!
Got in the club and Isaac S and DJ Cher (I think that's her name) were going back to back on decks warming things up nicely. I was surprised to hear them actually playing prog instead of cheesy hard house/trance (Cher) or disco house (Isaac S). It was well done.
Sharam stepped up to the decks at 12:30 and proceeded to THROW DOWN. My goodness! I'm not sure if he was Deep or Dish, but it didn't matter. Ali was left at home to tend to himself, so it was soley Sharam for the night.
Sharam dropped some nice chunky house and then quickly moved into the prog. There was no messing about as he started throwing down CDR after CDR. I couldn't get over how many CDRs he played. I was expecting more vinyl, but with CDRs being so much cheaper to do up than an acetate, I can understand why things were the way they were. It was pure bliss. Amazing tunes that pumped in a dark and dirty way. I kept trying to trainspot tracks, but it was a useless effort because of most of the tracks being on CDR. Sharam was too caught up in the music to show them off anyway.
We left at around 3:30 with a great big grin on our faces.
Sharam is a class act. Not only did he schmooze with his fans before he played, but he smiled the whole way through the set and kept a constant rug-tearing hip-shake going on too. He signed autographs for anyone who requested without ANY attitude, took pictures and was overall VERY friendly to anyone who approached him. I was thoroughly impressed with his outlook on things. It's not often that DJs of Deep Dish's calibre are like this. He gladly signed my posters, my gf's GU Moscow CD, their album on Deconstruction and took a pic each with my gf and then one with me - all with smile on his face and friendly chit-chat to boot.
I must say, I was thoroughly impressed with Sharam as a person and as a DJ. He puts many of the 'names' out there to shame. I for one, will go see Deep Dish for a fourth time!!
Cheers,
Jay K.
PS - finally nice to meet up with all of the TBK massive in effect at the event. From top of my head, I met Madnezz, El Presidente High Steppa, JayIsBored, Liquid Fairy (who I know already), Olga (forget your Tribe name), Toby (Tribe name forgotten), Kix, Temper Tantrum, uh... and a whole bunch more. Forgive me as I'm terrible with names and memory! Haha.
PPS - Can't wait until next Friday for Tilt at System! Wish me a happy b-day if you wish as I'm turning the grand old age of 26. Ugh.
