I wasn't there. So someone tell me about it.

It was solid. Scott basically played a megamix of the most recent album bolstered with more percussion, mixed lovingly, and given lots of room to breathe. He had some real choice minimal in the mix at his set at mutek this past summer that was absent last night, but I think his set last night was a pretty clear indicator of where he is headed with his sound. Nods to dubstep and grime left, right, and centre.

I think some of that came out AFTER task played!

Got there for the last 45 mins of Deadbeat's set and he was doing good, but I guess my energy didn't kick in until Task played later and I must say, he was frickin AMAZING!

Some real mind-blowing tracks, Task took me and the whole of Salem's loft on a twisted journey of FX-laden techno. Seriously, it was a trip!!

Been a long time since I seen him and I must say, the wait was more than worth it. Congrats Task! WONDERFUL!

Deadbeat came on AFTER task and was laying down some awesome beats but by that point I was having visions of my bed so all I could do was nod my head - but the tracks at that point were little more minimal and not as "dubby" as the stuff he was playing for his first set.

Anyway, great night, great music from the two artists I heard. Salem's is always an awesome vibe and last night was no exception..;)

Interesting. How so? Slower tempo? Grimey basslines and efx? Or very dubby? Lately I've been pondering the intersection of dubstep and minimal, wondering how it might work.

I had a great time last night. It's been a while since I've been to Salem's Loft.

Running into Slyvia, Seb and Phil was an added bonus!

i almost got swallowed by a couch after too much dinner and a rather weed heavy shisha pipe and balderdash session, but thankfully came to just in time to make it and almost not get in cause of no more tickets and so on.

deadbeat's dubby-ness was loud, bassy and fitting given my stoned self when i finally walked in to the near pitch black space and couldn't see two inches in front of myself heh heh... i love it when its dark though... thanks to sandra for grabbing me or i'd have walked into a pole or something... everyone looked hot though. i could feel it.

there were definitely grimey moments (yeah, definitely slower tempos, grimey basslines and plenty of efx added) that worked well with and between the more upbeat minimal stuff he was mixing along with some reverb and delay effects... and gave a bit of pace... at times it was a touch disorienting, but i like that especially in the dark environment and given my weedy headspace etc... as far as dancing i think the 4/4 stuff still moves my feet the most, but the less structured stuff and the thick bass does wonders for the head. he closed with some rootsy reggae stuff which got a cheer and then some (i thought it was task?, but my eyes were failing me in the dark) got on and it got more techy and 4/4 again... very good. i took off and shared a cab home with the tara at about 4 and all in all a very fun few hours out.

the sound was particularly good, very bassy and i liked the dark enivronment and dubby sound for a change... plus while fairly packed, there was a bit more room to move around and dance which was also nice. great night out! the usual salem's magic.

Thanks so much to all of you who came down! It was so nice to see so many friends who have supported us for the last few years, and so many new faces out to spend the night with us.

What can I say!? It was an AMAZING night. Definitely one of the best we have had here at the Loft, if not the tops!

Thank you so much to Deadbeat for playing not one, but two sets throughout the night. Word was that he'd never had so much fun playing in Toronto and we were rewarded by almost three hours of his beautiful music. Thanks Scott!!!!

And of course, thanks so much to Adam Marshall, Scott Cormier, Chad Breen, Tom Kuo and Intrepid Traveller. Everyone was stellar. This was truly a night for the record books! I definitely won't forget being surrounded by so many friends doing such amazing musical work.

Big love until next time!

Got there early, but still missed Intrepid Traveller.

Chad and Scott were great. New minimal shit. DM remix. Techno classics at the end.

Adam Marshall was next and I thought his shit was smelling like sweeeet sweeet roses!!!! Lately I've witnessed more 'drummy and tracky' techno sets from the Killer. This set ended up in the deeeep end! (Guess you can't finish with a 145bpm track before Deadbeat goes on...). I liked it a bit better than Deadbeats. (but I'm biased, I like DJs over bands..)

NOT TO SAY DEADBEAST WASN"T GREAT!!! He was. But it was a safer (?) set than it could have been. (there was only maybe one or two joints I didn't recognize from albums, eps or livesets..)

Task was blowin up the spot, but by that point I had bought all the beer at the bar and was too weighted down with a burstin bladder to keep movin.

Great times at salems lot as per usual. Thanks for riskin it with another fine jam!
(hide a portpotty outside, maybe?)

Destro,
GIJoe,
Ya know?
