first,..plasma's do not require any kind of annual maintenance whatsoever. Other than wiping the screen of dust every once in a while.....

I thought you had to vent them every year or two??

Burn in does not occur on a plasma, I have played more video games than viewed TV on mine and I have no artifacts, dead pixels, or screen burn whatsoever.

LCDs are brighter, but plasma's display a better picture and handle moving scenes better IMO.

Yeah... i'm pramarily going to be playing videogames on this thing too.

I'm automatically assuming that if i'm going to spend $5G's+ on a tv, it's going to be proscan and hdtv compatible... Is this a safe assumption? or are there lots of lcd's and plasmas that ARENT HD?

The burn-in does apply on certain models. Some don't display gray bars on the edges during 4:3 program viewing and as a result, after time, there is a noticeable burn-in.

Agreed on the moving scenes.

Like WTF, that's nice, pay $10k for a Plasma and it can be screwed from the get go...

Plus with Plasma you have to service/vent the gas or whatever every year I hear.

kife dont listen to this drivel.

kromer radio has a one-by-one pixel replacement policy for one year, can be extended up to three.

brother just bought a 42 inch panasonic plasma, it looks fucking amazing.

also was in the market for the LCDs, but too expensive for a 42 incher.

check out the samsung DLP television if you can. also very nice...

Incremental baby steps so far.

I'm talking fucking breakthrough.

I guess it depends on size of TV/Room also for KiFe...

I had to re-arrange my living room just so I could watch TV on my 46" ... it was way too close the way I wanted to have my Living room.

Dont' forget that KiFe ;) At least 8-10' away from the TV!

pr0nstar

yeah... i'm usually 5-10' from my tv... so mabie 47' will be a bit grand. hahah i'm thinking 32 might be equally good.

when i'm that close to the set, i don't have to have the biggest tv in the world.

yes, there are a few plasmas not hdtv.

make SURE before you buy.

WALMART of all places now sells plasmas.

I read that like 8 times before finally realizing it was FEET, not INCHES...

"What the fuck, who sits 5 to 10 inches from their screen?"

Well the way I had my living room setup before, the 32" was fine... But the 46" WideScreen was way too much.

That's the problem IMO buying a huge TV, you need a big room to enjoy it properly.

Not directed for your purposes KiFe, but FutureShop has a 42" (no-name brand) on for $2,999. Shitty resolution, but if you want the "cool" factor without the price it is an option.

Cheers ... Ian :)

yeah, but come on, who really watches programs in 4:3 anymore? you can always change the screen mode, and have it display a full screen image...granted, it is a little stretched, but to me, that's better than bars on the side of my widescreen...

Kenny: there is no venting, or any maintenance of any kind with plasmas...you only need to keep the screen dust free, and the fans clear of debris.

57" widescreen sony xbr.

it's massive but it's on wheels so it's actually pretty easy to move around as long as there are no stairs. :)

I can't stand the stretch! If I enter a room where the TV has the picture stretched I immediately point it out and it bothers me. Especially if you are watching basketball and it makes the players appear to be bouncing and egg-shaped ball. ;)

What about the phase converters and the dilithium crystals?

BTW, my 46" WideScreen Rear Projection weighs less than my 32" Wega did.. lol

Those CRTs are fucking heavy, I don't even wanna know what Ian's XBR weighed in at.
