In the last year or 2 he's become a household name so I'm very very curious to see the box office receipts at the end of it's first weekend

holy shit...i honestly didnt realize how late it is...time really flies when you're watching european porn

Meh, looks like it should be a special airing on Comedy Central, but if they can put Jackass on film as a feature length movie, then why not Dave Chapelle doing a tired schtick?

Saw it at the Film Festival (though this version's probably been reedited). There's some great performances in here...Lauryn Hill gave me chills! The Dead Prez one is tight too.

In a way, Canuck is right. I don't know how well it works as a movie, but I would definitely purchase the DVD for the performances alone.

Interesting, Fred Hampton Jr is in this movie. I haven't seen it yet but I remember listening to a very interesting story he was telling on "Satudray Morning Live" (88.1fm I think) with Norman Otis Richmond about the night his father was murdered.

i saw it at tiff aswell and it doesn't really work for me as a feature film.lots of good on the street moments w/dave and some really hot performances but still will be better served as a dvd IMHO.

I saw this on Monday and really enjoyed it. Dead Prez was crazy. LAuren Hill was great as well "we have a technical difficulty, Lauren Hills label won't release any of her songs so she came up with an alternate solution. Ladies and gentleman, THE FUGEES!"

It has nothing to do with his show. You don't actually know what this movie is about do you?

Where did I say it was based on his show or skits?

It's not that hard to infer from the title, and a quick look at IMDB to figure what's up.

I'm sure it'll be a great time, it's Chappelle, but I think it would be better suited to dvd/home viewing/primetime special since it's a quasi documentary style.

lol, of course it doesn't. i'm sure it will be hillaryass, and look forward to the dvd.

i just save the big screen for movies with effects that make it worth my while to go. that said, i only see one or two movies at the theatre a year.

hearing uproarious unison laughter totally makes it a movie worth shelling out 10 bucks for...it's nice when everybody is actually looking and laughing at the same thing and this in no exception.

i can't really blame someone though if they don't feel compelled to shell out $13 to see a comedy in a movie theatre. i never really care if i see a movie when it first comes out, and i used to only go to theatres for movies that required a big screen and big sound. now i go all the time it seems.

so i have so many good things to say about this movie!!
it was everything i expected it to be and then a whole bunch more.
first off, the performances are SICK. in my experience, a lot of concerts which feature a bunch of artists coming together, all performing on stage together, can often suffer musically... like "woo, here we are...all singing together" but it sorta sounds like shit.
anyway, that is NOT the case here! there are some really organic moments on stage. i should mention that pretty much all the songs that made it to the movie are well recognizable hits, but i kinda liked that anyway.
the crowd reactions are amazing...some of the wide shots made me feel like i was really there in the crowd. it felt electric.

secondly, its really funny.

thirdly, its political, and not washed down 'power to the people' political... like, people are saying what they really feel, not censoring themselves at all... i found it so refreshing.

fourthly, there was something entirely positive about what was going on...this wasn't some benefit concert, people weren't pretending to be martyrs for some cause...they were all just taking part in this thing because they respected and liked one another and wanted to be there.

i could go on and on and on but i'll stop there for now.

p.s. "i don't have to lie cuz i'm the guy on the side"
p.p.s. DEAD PREZ FOR....UMM...PRESIDENT!

fuck i already forgot something...re: our previous talk about renting vs. going to the theatre:

GO SEE THIS IN THEATRES. the sound is amazing... so rich and big and powerful. the drums and the beats sound so good coming out of movie theatre speakers.
people in the audience were dancing in their seats, clapping, some were singing along. good times.
