Cubase editor haaaaaaaaaaaaaaaalp

Alright for some reason I can't open my key editors in cubase and its driving me keeerrrrrrrrrrrazy! I'm running SX 2.0.1.

I've loaded my vst instrument, set the out to the instrument. Can play with the instrument and everything but the "key editor" is greyed out and I can't select it. I'm sure its something obscenely easy but I just can't get it. :( I've looked all through my book, tried googling for online help, I'm sooooo useless.

record the midi, then double click on it. Or, using the pencil, double click on the track and a midi segment will open... then double click on that.
