Creepy = Session 9 = good rental

Watched this last night. One of the most unsettling films I've seen until the last 15 minutes (they bother to explain things...and like most horror films that tries to explain what happened, it doesn't work).

Still, the story is about an asbestoes clean up crew that is sent in to clean up an abandonned insane asylum that is to be converted into a new commercial used peice of real estate. They have one week to clean everything up, and the owner of the clean up team (as do the employees) need the money in order to make ends meet.

Just rent it. The less I tell you, the better.

From the Ministry of gave me the heeby jeebies for a while.

It's waaaaaaaaaaaaaay better than that piece of Stephen King brainfart.

It's called Session 9. See it in 5.1 as sound plays a very important role in it and just adds to the ambience (there are parts where the crackling and pop static that is played on an old tape recorder just add to the fear factor of the film.)

It stars David Caruso (and he's actually quite good), as well of a bunch of actors that you've probably seen in a bunch of other films in small roles.

It came out this summer and had a brief stint on the rep circuit and at the Carlton.

From the Ministry of trust me. I was really disturbed at how effective it was. Spooky.

Yes sir. Paxton is great in character as well. Also, I love Uptown theater. I would so much rather go there than the 13 buck megaplexes.

Oh, and as per this month's film reviews, I can't recommend Donnie Darko enough. Great film that combines elements of Final Destination, Requiem for a Dream, X-Files, Jacob's Ladder, Jimmy Stewart's Harvey and a bunch of other films. Sounds fucked, but I was shocked at how good the cast was (including Patrick Swayze, Drew Barrymore and Noah Wyle) and how backgroundish they are willing to be. It's a great, messed up film.

From the Ministry of screwed up, but goddam good.

Yeah...

I watched this, thinking "hey, pretty good movie... interesting"... until the last part, and then it moved up into my top 10.
