I've never been but I have 4 friends that are going at that time.

I suggest you rent a car if you're going for two weeks.

The airport is far from the beaches and the bus system is slooow.

that's what I've heard.

I'm going to go there in April 2004

ha!

i just got back from a week in costa rica... it's an absolutely amazing country. where are you going?

i flew into liberia - and basically toured the entire north western province of guanacaste. words can't describe the beauty of the people, wildlife and vegatation in this country.

i suggest you rent a 4x4 vehicle and drive... rainforests, beaches, volcanoes - you can't go wrong...

hit me up with questions - i'll tell you everything i know. :)

im landing in san jose @ noon on NYE so we will have enough time to roll to
beach town and set up shop,

no sure the exact details on where, as im going with some cats that have been there before, im trusting them on accomodations.

looking to just chill out and surf and fish.
i want true sashimi, taking a bit out of a tuna when its still swimming.... :D

if you windsurf/ kitesurf

lake arenal in the mountains is as good as fresh water sailing can get

consistent high winds with huge chop = great fun

I want to get there eventually to do some windsurfing along with some surfing on the coast

are you going to the Pacific side or the Caribbean side? (if those are indeed the two sides)

i went to costa rica for new years eve years ago....it was pretty crazy...they closed down all the main streets and there were people partying in the streets everywhere...we went to this carnival thing with these midway rides that would blow your mind....sooooo unsafe and with little to no supervision....people were also bringing their big flasks of beer on the rides and not wearing their safety restraints....it was quite a sight....i went on a couple rides but got too freaked out about flying off it or it not being set up properly so that was enough for me...
the rest of the trip we took tours of the rainforests and went to an amazing hot spring from a volcano...you should definately check that out...

3)local delicacies (and by that I mean fresh meat)

1)the 'rainforest' that is the highest above sea level, is mostly in the southern range. but everywhere you look is jungle, besides of course, san jose, the odd small town, and farms that spot the countryside.

2) out your front door..

3) my only suggestion here is that you practice your spanish..

as for lake arenal - it's a man made lake that does have great winds along the western side... also arenal volcano is active and the lava can be seen exploding and sliding down the mountain at night.

oh and btw...the roads are treacherous, but a whole lot of fun to drive...
