Coronation street

Spyder: is the ugliest human being alive
Janice: reminds me of a garden gnome
Toya: so unfortunate, on so many levels

Please tell me Kevin is not falling in love with that horrid roomie.
The day they kiss, is the day I cover the walls of the TV room with vomit.

I used to watch coronation street every day when I lived in england. It looks like a bad show at first, but when you watch it long enough, it's quite addictive (still bad, but easier to watch ;). I haven't watched it in years, but a couple of sunday's ago, I found all the weekday episodes are played on sunday's from 11-1 pm. So now I'm hooked again.

I probably should have put this in the I have a dirty little secret thread. :D

Just hearing that god awful theme song makes me think of being at home sick in grade school, and having absolutely nothing to do or watch on TV. Shudder.

It used to be on for a half hour every day and on the week-ends you could catch it if you missed it during the week because there was a two hour episode on Sunday mornings at 9:00.

My dad and I watched it nearly every Sunday from as far back as I can remember up until I moved away. My mom HATED it.

I loved it :)

now there are so many characters I don't even know. Many more younger people on the street now.

but anyways...

Coronation Street airs Mon-Thur at 3pm-3:30pm on CBC and repeats Sun moring from 8am-10am.

Emmerdale airs immediately after it weekdays but is not repeated on Sundays.

I tape it everyday and watch it after work. I find it WAY more realistic than American soap operas. That "Passions" soap with the witch and the midget the biggest pile of shiton tv. I totally recomend Corrie if you are fed up with dumb American stuff.

The only negative about Corrie is that it is 3 months or so behind than the UK airings and Emmerdale is 3 years behind.

I love this show too (and have been watching for longer than I should ;))!

Sally: so annoying!
Deidre: should have kept her in jail
Uncle Fred: I say, I say Ashley..... ughhh his voice scares me
Baldwin's son is another champ too.

I wish they had Antiques Roadshow on after Coronation Street

OMG, the entire side of my Mum's family watches this. Poor stepdad married into it.....I remember once he screwed up the VCR settings, and Mum and her parents all freaked since they were gonna share the video tape of that episode. DRAMA.

I agree though....it does seem more realistic than some American soap operas. That's why I dont watch it. As if I need to be reminded of my own blase soap opera existence!!! Hook me up with that Y&R shit.....mmmmmmNickNewman.

oh man, I never thought I would see the day... a thread on tribe about coronation street... ah well, I admit it, I watch it... but I have an excuse, I grew up in the UK watching it until I came here... since then I've watched it on and off, went off it for a few years, and now i'm back watching it again...

compared to US soap operas, it's 100x better, but it's still a pretty crappy show I admit :)

mike: wife killer!
betty: make me a hot pot
ashley: shut up! i can't stand your freakin voice
ken: old fart

ok that's enough, i'm done embarrassing myself..

I don't mind Coronation Street but I never really had a chance to get into it. My dad *hated* it. He said he lived it for 25 years, there was no way he was going to be subjected to it now that he'd moved over here.

I prefer East Enders anyways...that show I was TRULY addicted to.

East Enders

yes indeed, good ol' east enders.
i watched that with the kids i nannied in the UK.
they were a 9 yr. old girl and a 13 yr. old boy.

i thought that it was incredible that these two young kids loved east enders as any stay at home mom loves her soaps.

i agree that the UK soaps seem to be a little more realistic than the american shit. i mean, at least they seem like regular people in that they don't wear evening gowns and loads of make up in every episode. I mean, where do the american soap people get their money... it seems a lot of them don't work yet, here they are all decked out every episode.

in any case, i know a lady who's watched coronation since its inception. She loves it.

And - the correct term for the repeat episodes on Sundays - it's the OMNIBUS :)

okay - i'm done
