confidence?

Hi, I've been lurking for a while now and noticed that alot of good advice is given here. So I need some help. I'm a very shy person and am wondering how to gain some confidence. I'm currently searching for a job. What kind of things should I do to psych myself up for applying to places? I have no direction in my life. This is some heavy stuff for a first post, huh?

Holy sh*t boy, you read my mind. I have an intense Wed night run and tonight everything was falling, there's nothing like respect from ballers to get your ego trippin'

there's nothing to be shy about. even if you have a hairy back and a potbelly you should still feel comfortable in your own skin to walk around without fear of being mocked.

Incidentally, rentat, this might be a good time to point out that being able to LAUGH AT ONESELF is a huge step towards confidence... if you can poke fun at yourself, how can you care what others do?

Pick up a book on self esteem, look for ones that have more practical advice than tree hugger bullshit on Amazon.

you don't really need confidence on the inside as long as you act like you rule the world on the outside. i'm probably one of the most insecure people there is, but on the outside i'm a drunken angry asshole who doesn't give a fuck what anybody(especially people on this board) thinks of him!(although every insult cuts deep into my soft warm innards)

fuck em' all! your better than everybody else!

Finding a job means selling yourself to a complete stranger. This is much harder for some than it is for others that may have the natural ability to sell. So for us strugglers we need to look to things for guidance and motivation.

You basically need to read/listen/watch/do something that will leave you feeling empowered, like you can face anything and anyone. It doesn't necessarily have to be something directly related with sellin/confidence but it could be if hat's your cup of tea.

If watching a movie is your bag, I reccomend Boiler Room. Although they all get fucked in the ass at the end, it's a good energy packed testosterone filled flick with plenty of examples to follow when it comes to being brutally convincing to people.

If you're the type of person that needs something a bit more genuine, then I'd tell you to volunteer to help the less fortunate, or donate blood. You have no idea what this helping others can do for self esteem and confidence. I know it's kind of morally shifted to go volunteer with an ulterior motive to "feel better about yourself" but I do believe the act of giving has it's selfish side and there is nothing wrong with feeling good when helping others.

One of my newer favourite movies. That movie always gets me pumped! Good idea, Otis.

And also, Jim Young is Ben Afflecks best role ever.
