Computer Troubles :(

Okay, so I fucked my computer up a while ago, and I finally got around to installing a fresh copy of winXP (on a new partition this time so I wont have to bitch about losing files)

I currently have 1 120GB Hard Drive.

The old way it worked was in one big partition, now, I split it into 3 partitions... one 15gb partition (which I just installed windows XP fresh onto), one 50gb partition (which contained all my old files and previous windows installation), and one fresh 55gb partition which I plan on formatting and moving everything from my original install (files/mp3/etc) and then wipe that original partition clean.

Only problem is, I cant see my original partition in windows, only the new 15gb, and the unformatted 55gb.

Why cant I see it? Is it because I need to change the first (original) partition from Primary To Logical?

Throw me a bone tribe ;)

Im not really..

I had partition magic 7 installed on the old partition.

But It don't think that partition likes to boot up anymore...

I could give it a shot and try to go back to it.

Go to
www.bookdisk.com

Get the win98 boot disk, create a boot disk with it, reboot & use Fdisk to manage your empty partitions. Convert them to NTFS after you got them set & visible.

But feel better cause my computers not working either.
But mines a way way different problem.
It won't allow me to have the internet on it. We've tried everything.
Networking and routers(sp?) new I.P.... New ethernet cards......

and nadda.

It pisses me off. I want to be able to surf the web in the comfort of my own room dammit.

OTIS, I would be running fdisk already.

But I was too cool for a floppy drive when I purchased my PC.

:(

Any other suggestions?

Can I burn the win 98 boot disk to CD and boot off that?

I've never made bootable CD's before.

Have you tried Disk Management under Adminstration?

See if it sees the partition and mount it in XP?

Just my 2 cents.

Hmm maybe, the key here is that you have to boot into DOS, which of course WIN XP is absent of. So yea look for instructions on creating a bootable CD, and go with that.

we tried to. but that wouldn't work either.
I don't know much about anything when it comes to computers. But i do know it did work before... then I moved.
Came back , hooked her all up again and it won't work.
we have 4 computers all together.
3 of which all have the net going... 2 are networked together...
the other isn't.

Nope, it helped a little tho, it can see the partition, but it wont let me do anything with it.

See for yourself
You still need to create a partition on the unallocated space. Then format it. Use Fdisk, partition magic may have fucked something up.

Eccentric (LRG), your problem could be a million things.. if it was a direct connection I could probably walk you through it.

Why would that stop me from seeing my original partition?

Why can't I just assign it a drive letter?

It should be just as easy as click click & it's done.. but something tells me Pmagic is the cause of all this.

So does anyone know any decent partition management software out there?

Or any other Ideas on why/how to fix my faulty computer ;)

Yeah the NTFS partition that has no drive letter contains my previous install of windows and everything that was on the harddisk.

I just dont want to have to re-download like 20 gigs of software/mp3's/movies.

Ahh in that case I have no idea.. try installing partition magic again to see if IT reads it.
