Computer help: 100% CPU usage?

Seems I have something buggin' in my computer and it's pissing me off because I normally keep everything squeaky clean.

I don't know what the problem is but things are running slowly and when I open Windows Task Manager it says my CPU Usage is running at 100% all the time. I don't see anything strange in the Processes list though.

I ran an online virus scanner (Trend Micro's HouseCall) and it did find a Trojan, which it cleaned. I also ran SpyBot Search & Destroy and AdAware, both of which found 2 items. I cleaned them both. I still seem to be having the problem.

I booted into safe mode and ran HiJack This. Here is the logfile:

Anyone have any ideas? I really don't want to format and start all over. :(

In task manager, sort the processes by cpu usage and see which one is using up the processor. that's the first place i'd start

The Task Manager should list what process is using up the resources. If not, add the column "CPU USage" to find out. Sometimes just ending it will get everything back to normal.

One instance of svchost.exe is using between 94-98% of my CPU. That seems to be the problem. It's only using 2,972K of memory though. There doesn't seem to be anything unusual in the ram department, just my CPU.

There's also 7 separate instances of svchost.exe running. I know it's normal to have multiple instances running at once, but does that seem exessive? I've never paid much attention to it before.

Do you have all the latest windows updates? Svchost is a popular process for worms to hijack. Multiple instances of this process is normal, but not running @ 90+%

Thanks, after installing the windows security updates and cleaning some stuff with HiJack This, my comp seems to be normal again.

Plus, I bookmarked that handy adult dialer for a rainy day!
