Coat Check Tipping??? ...

So how much is a reasonable coat check tip? Also, should you even have to tip coat check? Like coat check is already $2-$3 and sometimes you have to wait up to thirty minutes to get your coat back.
Also, is it better to tip at the beginning of the night or at the end?

Do you guys think if you don't tip at the beginning of the night the staff won't care about your coat as much as stated by *S*?

Also, if you tipped at the beginning of the night and lose your stub ... why do they make you wait 'til the end of the night to get your jacket for you? Whats the tip for?

It's pretty cruel for the farmer ... cause if it's a dairy cow and you tip it
Apparently the shock can fuck you their milk or something like that

I know a few people who work coat check at various clubs around. They happen to work their asses off all night.. put up with stupid shit from drunks or etards.. it ain't easy.. i always tip.

Coat checking at raveish (het) clubs is usually the worst.. people are so cheap they usually don't tip anything. Gay folk however.. they have the $$$.

Tipping should be done at the end of coat check - you check your coat in the beginning of the night, but what happens in the event they lose your coat?

We deal with this already, at various clubs.
They expect you to tip them for handing you paper towl...when the dispenser is two steps away.

I dont' usually tip at coat check, unless they are really nice, or I gave them a thousand coats, or we exchanged friendly words.

actually, i was eluding to the fact that clubs already do this..

i went into the brass rail and there was a guy waiting to put soap in my hands.. i picked up the other bottle and did it myself..
then he passed me one paper towel after i finished washing up, i stepped past him and grabbed them myself from the towel rack.

it's kinda like this bum i used to see downtown, he would stand near the king st. underground and hold the door opened for everyone that walked past..
he asked me to tip him for opening the door and i told him that he was not providing a service to me that I could not accomplish myself..

I just don't tip coat check people.. in fact, i don't usually trust coat check with my stuff, so i usually leave it in the car..

I've only encountered it on a couple of occasions... and I know that some people think it adds "class", but it's just hassle to me. I can get my own paper towel, thanks.

It comes across as a cash grab to me. Not as a service.

At least the bouncers don't hold out heir hand for a tip after letting you in.

'member in cuba? ya ... they had those washroom 'attendants' everywhere. christ, they give you a little roll of TP and expect something back. i took the piece, and was all, 'wha'th'fuk'? all i have to do is pee. so i took it in with me and blew my nose with it.

i didn't tip them.

nor do i usually tip the coat check people.

i really don't like tipping, it makes no sense. if they're working for less than minimum wage and hope to make up for it with tips, then that's the fault of the employer - not mine.

christ, if i only got tipped here whenever i did someone a favour or did a generally good job i'd be a multi-billionaire. or somethin'
