on the page you linked me to - the low data drives(256/512) cost as much as the 1 gig drive. $9 per key is a bit more than i was hoping for since i have to account for the fact that i will lose a bunch or people i give them to toss them out

i guess i have to look into stores that will sell them to me bulk?

You'd have to probably purchase direct from the manufacturer to get it cheaper than $9. And then you'd have to do what Sheik Rock said - buy in bulk - to make it worth your while. On the upside, you might be able to get your production name, etc. silkscreened on each stick for next to nothing!

for $10 you can get a 2 gig at Futureshop.

yes i saw they have a bin of those green keys there now.

maybe ebay? china?

looked around on ebay and i found a store selling the kingston 512meg for around $2 each so that might be promising.

looked at some of those other stores for bulk and it's a bit much, you have to spend like $500 for the price to go down :O

or you could go the microSD route
3+ $6.14 shipped
5+ $6.04 shipped
10+ $5.94 shipped

yeah probably not the best idea since a lot of people wouldn't know what to do with it. except for the fact that albums are going to be getting released on this format soon.

i have business card sized cd-rs here but i'm not sure if i want to use them because a lot of DJs use an apple laptop, which has no tray in the disc drive. that's why i have to look into keys or lug around full sized CDs

Use larger keys and fill them up with more value-added content (photos, remixes, seperated tracks for remixers, maybe a portable media player, etc)

right on... i especially like the idea of giving the stems for remixing on it.

Great idea.

Biography
Pics
Video
Remixes
Separated Tracks
etc.

Physical media is on the way out. That's never going to catch on.

it may not catch on when it comes to buying albums but it's definitely a great promotion tool for content creators.

and if physical media is no more i'd better be able to get uncompressed music somewhere. right now the selection is shit.

i agree. it's also good for giving music as a gift to someone. i've never been into collecting CDs for a long time because i don't take good care of them, but i should hope that other people still get that opportunity.

anyways i do plan to release something on cassette one day cause i loved tapes. i think the challenge would be fun for the listeners. you'd have to get your stereo out of the garage in order to listen to it

in an unrelated note - apparently i can meet my lesbian match says the ad at the top of the forum today
