I got my 27" Phillips for $350 plus tax.

Check all the "warehouse" style places that have adds in the Sun and such.

i'll tell you a secret..

it's almost the end of the month.

go to 2001 audio / video on the last day of the month.. and make them a deal.
i had a friend that worked at one and basically the last day, they are either told .. "we haven't sold enough stock this month.. get rid of it for any price you can.. " or "we have oversold this month.. so lets get rid of this stuff so we can get the newest model x-9000 up in this place. "

i got 40% off a subwoofer and some dood that was there the same day got a $1600 system for like 1100 taxes in.

If you're ever in the Sauga, there's an RCA warehouse outlet at Highway 10 + 401 - visible from the road. They have great prices for TV's, VCR's, cordless phones, etc. Some of the stuff is refurb, but you can get some great deals.

This is true..
Me and my geek friend Jordon used to go around looking for electronics on Garbage days at the end of the month cuz we knew people were moving..

All working condition:

3 TV's (one was a 26")
3 printers (1 HP laser)
various computer parts
turntables of all sorts.. (no 12's)
various stereo equipment..

Just don't get caught.

No it's not.. it's against the law to scavange.

Which is dumb.. some places in europe have days where you can openly go around and grab things that peopel are tossing out.. which is good to reduce landfill. Canada still has it's head screwed into it's taint.

I don't think that's the case in Montreal. Or at least its not enforced.

I would practically hand my garbage/recycling to this asian guy who walked up and down our street, and he'd go through it for pop cans and beer bottles and anything he could return.

There were a whole crew of people who did this on monday and wednesday evenings.

We all know how Montreal has a more euro-liberal way of doing things.. so it wouldn't surprise me if they have no scavanging laws.

Are you sure Otis?

I checked this a couple years back, and was told it is legal. I used to pay people to scavenge for used carpet ( I had a steel company buy it from me to clean the steel on the assembly line)

Hmmm I checked up on it too.. I may have been mistaken tho because it may have been a prohibitive law regarding those big bins.

The big bins are private property. The company who owns the bin also owns whatever is in it. I always had to get permission from companies with bins if I wanted the carpet out of them.

Got a 32" at Costco last year for approx. $599, but the resolution is shit.

Depending on how much you are willing to pay, don't compromise size for quality of image. I don't miss higher rez for regular TV, but every time I watch a DVD on this thing I kick myself.

my advice. save your money until you can afford a nice set. trust me, it's well worth it. when it come to t.v.'s you get what you pay for.
