Chavez blames `diabolic' capitalism for slaying of 3 kidnapped brothers
Apr. 10, 2006. 01:00 AM

CARACAS—Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez said yesterday that capitalism is to blame for a spate of violent crimes, including the slaying of three kidnapped Venezuelan-Canadian brothers.

Chavez, who says he is leading a socialist revolution, said the crimes were motivated by capitalist ambitions in a "sick society."

"Capitalism is diabolic," while socialism is "authentically Christian," he said on national television.

The killings of the three kidnapped brothers unleashed days of protests across Caracas, with demands for a government crackdown on crime and police corruption. A news photographer was also shot dead by an unidentified man while on his way to cover a protest.

"It made me want to take to the streets, too," to protest, Chavez said yesterday.

But he said his opponents were seeking political gain, using "eye drops to cry for the television cameras."

The Faddoul brothers — John, 17; Kevin, 13; and Jason, 12 — were found shot in the head and neck along with their driver Tuesday, more than a month after being kidnapped at a bogus police checkpoint.

Five people, including three members of a local criminal gang, have been detained in the case.

Days earlier, the body of Italian-born businessman Filippo Sindoni was discovered shortly after he was kidnapped by two men in police uniforms. Six people have been arrested in the Sindoni case.

Further proof that you don't need an education to become president of a country.

he's right that capitalism kidnapped 3 brothers?

Ya - Im sure that's what 2canplay meant out of all of that, cause that's what makes the most sense and what I would have meant if I said "chavez was right" in response to the 1st post...

Ya he was vague, but chances are he was referring to something else.... maybe about socialism being a more authentically christian way of ordering society...

But hey, maybe I'm wrong and you're right Bass-Invader about what 2canplay was saying Chavez was right about -> or maybe he was talking about the opposition using eyedrops to fake cry for tv cameras, cause I heard once you make more than a million dollars a year (and Chavez' opposition is rich after all) that it becomes physically impossible to cry (Anderson Cooper excepted).
