This goes out to the nutrition/mongo/gymkids.

What are the healthiest all around cereal brands out there, to get the day off right?

I usually have a bowl of cereal and a glass of milk with protien powder to start my day. Or the always fun bacon, eggs and cottage cheese. I was finding if I just ate cereal I got hungry by 9:30.

depends... whenever i go to workout in the early afternoon (12:30) i find i cant have anything too heavy to eat... so i usually have some fruit or try to wake up really early so i give myself a good 4 hours to digest the food

I like Vector alot it starts me off on the right step,
right now though I'm all about hot cereal, Muffets or oatmeal with some added trail mix, coconut, and srawberry jam soo good.

and the 1/2 Grapefruit is a great palate clenser after.

I love my breakfast. turn on some tunes dance around the kitchen while coffee is brewing then eat. :D

I try and keep away from cereal as much as possible, not enough protein to justify it. When I do its usually oatmeal, with some added fruit to it. Then down a protein smoothie, blended protein, olive oil, 4 raw eggs, fruit and about 100grams of protein to get me going. But thats me.

Personally I go in and start reading the labels on your grocery purchases. All the info you need in order to make an informed purchase is right there.

The healthiest breakfast is whole grain cereal. If you're trying to lose weight, control cholesterol or diabetes, or just need a lot of energy, your best bet is a hot cooked cereal of whole grains, such as oat groats, barley or wheat berries, served like oatmeal - perhaps with cinnamon or raisins. Most of the prepared hot cereals such as oatmeal are made from whole grains and are just fine, too, but not as filling.

If you prefer cold cereal, you need to check the list of ingredients carefully. The FIRST ingredient should be a whole grain. Then scan through the entire list and if you see the words "partially hydrogenated," put the box back on the shelf. You should avoid foods with partially hydrogenated oils (or "trans fats"), and they show up in an alarming number of cereal brands (see the list below.)

Once you've eliminated all the brands made with refined grains or partially hydrogenated oils, check for added sugars (you want little or none) and fiber (you want a lot.)

The fiber content listed on the nutrition label can be confusing because it's based on serving size, and very light cereals (such as puffed wheat) show little fiber per serving, but an acceptable amount when you adjust for weight. Cereals made from bran (the outer covering removed from whole grains) will have higher fiber content than cereals made from whole grains (which have the germ and starchy parts of the grains as well as the fiber), but they can be hard to digest.

Recommended: Cereals made from Whole Grains
(no trans fats, little or no added sugars when I checked them; but check the labels -- ingredients can change. )

I already eat this for breakfast, but thats it (with skim milk and a glass of both water/oj) I'm just wondering what would go along well with the recommended 1/2 cup of this stuff.

And none of these raw egg shakes. :p
