Need a recommendation for a new home CD player.
Currently have a Pioneer 6-pack player which is starting to die.
Plus , it will not play burnt CD's.

Whats good out there right now ???

You might as well just buy a DVD player and use that to play CDs as well. It will be cheaper in the long run.

Cheers ... Ian :)

if you want a multi-disk CD player, I have a yamaha 5 disc one that is currently sitting in a box.

it's about 3 years old ... and it's yamaha - so very good quality. Not over used and well cared for like all my stereo equipment. i got a dvd player and haven't had a good reason to put it back in the rack as i don't listen to CDs all that often and the DVD player can do the trick.

Okay , promise not to laugh.....
My home system is comprised of stuff that is either 1 year old or 20 years old. I got spagetti running all over the place. For some reason , I never clued in that the new DVD could play these CD's.

Still , it sounds pretty lame. Even with the TV hooked into the amp.

The bottom line is I want to burn a bunch of "party Cd's" , load them into a multi-disc Cd player , hit the "random" button then come back upstairs and get blasted and not have to worry about changing the music for 5 or 6 hours.

Did your Yamaha recognize and play the burnt CD's ??

True , but my new DVD player is a single player.
I would ideally want to load in 5 or 6 burnt CD's , hit the random play button and then walk away.

you can get multi-disc DVD players for only a little more than the single-disc ones that will play about a billion formats. So, you could burn 5 CDs full of MP3s, load them all, hit random, and listen into the middle of next week if you wanted. You should be able to find something in your price range (whatever that may be). A friend of mine has one that he payed about $350 for, and my parents just bought one for around $180. I'm sure they go higher, and possibly a little lower too.

i haven't tried burned CDs in it .. but i don't see why not. maybe i'll giv'er a try to find out.

but ... with the DVD player it may also play mp3 audio. which would means you can effectively burn 5-6 discs worth of music on one disc and play that on random.

Oh no ... , more new technology to totally confuse me.

If I go out and buy one , they will bring out another model a week later that will make mine obsolete.
That seems to be the trend lately. :)

NO , NO , NO !!!!!

Proper audio gear only !! Two channel audio with good old fashion high end gear .

Whats on my Hi-Fi rack , and very highly recommended ....

Audio Aero Capitole

Capitole CD Player 24/192 has been designed with the idea to equal the new digital formats performance. First, we selected the high-end CDPRO2 laser mechanism from Philips for its excellent playback performance, long lifetime, low play noise and long product life cycle. Supported by a specific aluminium suspension, its excellent readability allows to recover a maximum of CD’s data. Then, we included the state-of-the-art in digital processing : our exclusive STARS ® process (Solution for Time Abstraction Re Sampling), a combination of very high speed 192 kHz RE-sampling (a new jitter free clock is created), 24 bit re-quantization and signal enhancement techniques (extraction of “hidden” information from 16 bit data, improvement of dynamic, precision, soundstage and details), developed for Audio Aero by Swiss company Anagram Technologies SA. The core of the system is a 32 bit SHARC DSP which, by performing hundred millions of calculations per second, rebuilds a high precision 24/192kHz signal, independent from the input clock, and keeping total dynamic range in all stages. Then, after a 1024 times up-sampling on demand, D/A conversion is performed at 6.144MHz by a high performance 24 bit / 192 kHz DAC. Analogue output stage features sub-miniature tubes and high precision buffer with built-in high quality volume control for a perfect match between high-tech digital treatment and musicality.

Best in the business between 5000 and 10,000 dollars .

hey man, I'd love nothing more than to go out and drop $5K on a CD player, and have a wicked 2 channel system to match it. But it's just unrealistic given my budget and my situation. I'm quite happy with the gear I've got right now. I will upgrade in the future, but the dream of having an expensive 2-channel system is quickly going the same route as my childhood dream of owning a Lamborghini. ;)

sure ... if you had super human ears to match.

there's really no point in over sampling and over processing the signal.

actually, the funny part is that they incorporate a mini-tube amp at the end, just to give it that 'warm distorted audio'. why not just do that in the dsp?

besides, are your room's dimensions a perfect golden ratio to reduce any standing waves? are your speakers all aligned perfectly to minimise any out of phase distortion?

Hey , keep in mind that im the freak that has spent near 3000 bucks on speaker cables !!!

I take this hobby very seriously . My listening room is not accoustically perfect .

But spend an hour in my listening chair , close your eyes and my hi-fi will put you right on the stage or in the studio.

If your not satisfied by that claim then i will toss my cd player in the pool .

Bring your favourite music.

Hmmm . no pleasing you .

I spend a pile on hi-fi , live in a way to big house for 2 people .

But i dont waste paper and i hate SUVs .

Yep cables are directional and oxygen free .

If i told you about my speakers you would probably put a bounty on my head .

I like stereo gear , art and antiques. Thats my vice.

i rest my case, your honour. no further questions.

i'm sure it sounds great, and as long as your hobby doesn't kill anyone then that's good news.

actually, i wish i could spend oodles of cash on my audio system. but i have other bills to pay for and other vices to consume.
