Well this gig turned out to be all the best i hoped for and all the worst i feared from Villalobos & Luciano two weeks ago.

I got to the party when Sneak had just started and the place looked empty as hell - they'd moved the booth layout a bit from last time so there was more dancefloor space, and removed the rear speakers so it was more "concert style". Felt rather cavernous to start, but once people showed up it worked really well. The sound was much better than the previous party, and this time i actually had to use earplugs so it must've been a lot louder too.

But anyway, back to Sneak, he rocked it. Seriously, that hour or so of hearing him play made the crazy cover charge and drinks costs completely worth it. He played better tracks in 10 minutes than Villalobos & Luciano played all night at the previous gig. How sad that it had to end, because Carl Cox was boring with boringsauce. I admit i'm not big into techno so maybe i just didn't appreciate it, but it wasn't even techno with hi-hats and a bit of bounce like V&L - it was plodding straight line chug-a-chug techno. I danced all the way through because the crowd was great and i liked the vibe, but man oh man that music was infuriatingly dull. Later on Sneak came on for some back-to-back and it was like "hey, this track's kinda funky" - turn around it's Sneak - "where the fuck did the hi-hats go?" - turn around it's Carl. Eh, whatever. Everyone else seemed to be digging it. The thing that really sucked is when the lights came on at 5am with no encore. Seriously, guys? I can't remember when i left the last party, but i definitely don't remember the lights coming up that early. That led me to getting stuck in a longass coat check line and losing the people i was with, and blah. In the end i took the shuttle bus downtown and went out for coffees with a random (Tim Horton's afterparty - yeah!) so it all worked out, but it did feel a bit abrupt.

All in all, i did enjoy myself, though overall probably less than at Villalobos & Luciano. The sound quality was better, Sneak was amazing, the people and vibe were equally awesome, but Carl was a big disappointment musically and the early ending kinda sucked. Still, so happy to see thousands of people out at an "underground" rave, i really hope they can keep doing them.

THAT was a party. The whole place was bumping till the wee hours of the morning. I had a blast dancing the whole time.

I thought it was okay. Definitely not Carl Cox at his best though. He didn't seem too into and didn't really engage the crowd like he usually does.

Carl Rocked it!!

I'm not sure what party you guys where at but that was fucking sick!! Carl laid down track after track of relentless techno all night. Then he was dropping fresh breaks with Sneak. That was awesome.

Kinda pissed I missed this.

Yeah buddy, this party was way better than the Luciano/Villalobos party. The music by Sneak and Cox was much better to dance to.

It was nice to see the promoters improve on the issues of the last party. The sound was definitely better this time.

Carl Cox is a living legend...oh yes, oh yes. So much love and energy in his set. Sneak was great too!

My only problem is the location. I hope they do their next party at a venue downtown.

Heard about this when it was first announced and would love to have checked it out. Great to see promoters taking some chances and also bringing back the warehouse vibe. Would never have been able to fly in the crackdown of 10 years ago. Nice to hear Cox can still bring it and fun reading the reviews on various sites. I will have to keep my eyes open for future opportunities like this.

Was that the best Carl Cox set I have ever heard? No, obviously if you've been to Ibiza and attended his King of Spades parties, they are definitely something that can't be topped. And that's really tough, because if you see him there, you tend to compare that experience and expect that you get the same delivery and vibe and that's quite unfair.

HOWEVER, was that the best set Cox played in TO? Hell yeah. That was one hell of a fucking techno bitch slapping, that's for sure! Oh yes, oh yes!
And yes, Sneak brought it. I truly enjoyed seeing them back to back around 3:30ish, they were both relaxed and having fun behind the decks, which is usually how good music is played.
Vibe was awesome, people were smiling and everyone partied until early morning. Sound was also fixed. Nice touch with the Industry bricks in front of the stage. :)

Space is great, but for me... it ended up being a very expensive night, with a cab ride that was over $100 and of course the drinks, etc. But I really don't want to complain anymore and simply just look at the positive side - I am happy I attended, I supported, I had a lot of fun, I partied with my friends and got a dose of serious techno/house schooling and that it itself was all worth it.
Good job to everyone involved, the night was a success!

All I can say is it was alot better then another cheesy Guv or other club night. No bullshit Line up, no forcefull security (I was shocked when the security guy outside said "Hey how you doing" with a smile) Washrooms could be better, but the vibe was great, people outstanding have a great time. I did not even notice who was playing I was in a zone with a bunch of us just letting loose having fun, with out the worry of dodggyness. Well done guys for putting together what looks like, could be a brand new scene....what and where is next????

Techno like it's s'pposed to be done. Quite simply, the best party I've been to this year.

The warehouse was a great venue for re-capturing the "old-school" feel.

Minimal lighting effects and decoration. The sound was pretty decent and only got muddled in a couple of areas. Regardless the bass was kickin'!

Ya, there were 2 bottle service areas flanking the dancespace (and ya, full of meat-heads and overdressed skanks -of both genders) but the vibe was positive, fun, and despite the "class" distinctions there were no problems. They had security but they were quite respectful and helpful, i.e. telling stupid smokers to butt out and keeping a watchful eye on the over-served.

But my god, the techno. I couldn't stop dancing the whole night until 5am when the party ended.

Arrvied to see DJ Sneak for about an hour or so and then Carl got on and flogged the crowd mercilessly with pumpin, groovy, mechanical, percussive techno. An absolute joy to dance to! After a couple of hours he and Sneak went back to back. Sooooo good.

The cherry on top, a free shuttle bus from Downsview Park to Nathan Phillips Square at 5am.
Way to go!

Love how this party has fuck all comments and they're all positive, whereas the last party which was almost exactly the same thing but with better music overall (imo) gets 3 pages of bitching. Har. Guess all the sad sacks stayed home this time :)

I opted out of going to this party only cause I didn't want to go see Carl hoping for pummelling techno or funky house and only getting big room cheese. Glad for everyone that he delivered what he does best. Sad for me I wasn't there.

Do you really love it?

I'm not so sure you do.

I just think it's funny that when people don't have anything to bitch about they won't bother writing at all. I miss reading happy reviews, so yeah, i might have been a little sarcastic.

How about the number of parties for which people post roll-calls, and get responses to roll-calls, but then there is no review at all? Is it that much effort?

I like reading reviews of events I didn't go to: the good, the bad and the urly (and hopefully some funny along the way too).

The images I saw online, depicted exactly that. Not the bouncy overly happy Coxy that were used to. Who knows, coulda been jet lagged, hungover, upset tummy :)

Great reviews, pissed I missed out. From what I'm hearing, I think we might see Tenaglia at that space really soon :)

Cox delivered some serious fucking techno. I can go back to my hole for another 4 years or until SpeedyJ comes back and plays somewhere other than the gov.

One week on, not too late at all to write a review.

Arrived there after 11 to catch Sneak's set, and though it was feeling a bit empty-ish I knew it was going to quickly fill up. As others have said, the sound was vastly improved from the Hallowe'en party, and overall there was simply a better atmosphere.

When CC hit the decks it was game on, and even his 75-90% is far better than many others when they're at their best. My 3rd time seeing Cox and I would say it was the best. Personally I dig the chug-a-chug techno, and thought when him and Sneak were going back to back, their styles complimented each other quite well.

I think one of these warehouse jams every couple of months is exacty what T.O. needs. Musical vitamins, if you will.

Well done! :)

Listened to it and the first 15 minutes is great then it kinda looses it for me. I wasn't at the party however and would most likely have enjoyed it more live.
