first mixtape i ever bought was carl cox live @ utopia. great tape. i'd love to see him spin sometime, but not on a wednesday.
and i'd have to agree, he is playing pretty commercial stuff, and not entirely techno. but then, variety counts, and who can argue with watching a large Black egg-shaped man rock the house?

On one hand I want to go- I've never heard Cox live- but I don't think I will have any space to move inside Tonic, and that would be just too frustrating.
He may be commercial, but his passion and enthusiasm can't be ignored. Take him for what he is- a true party DJ- willing and able to rock just about any room.

I wouldn't go so far as to say he has no passion for the music. I don't believe that if you start to make large sums of $$$ doing something that you love to do, the passion will automatically disappear.
I'm not a big fan of his track selection, but I'd definitely go see him again under the right circumstances (not in a ridiculously crowded place like Tonic though). He rocked Turbo last year and put quite a show even if the tracks were quite commercial.

I've got credible sources that say last time he came to Sona he made the likes of Missy B look like a wuss.
And no passion for the music!? Have you seen the fat man rock the decks!? He always has the hugest smile on his face and always interacts with the crowd. Sure it might all be an act, but who cares? The man is a good time guarnteed each and everytime.

aux 88,IF,Dopplereffekt,drexciya....yes, they are ALL awesome - no doubt!! BUT like Techno, Elektro has many different sounds. Rother has a very distinct dark style that I have never heard anywhere before! That's my favourite type of Elektro...just like my fav. type of Techno is dark/hard/minimal.

8 months ago...wow...you DA MAN! Whatever. Rother released his first "official" Elektro record 7 years ago with the inspiration of kraftwerk. He has been producing this stuff since 1987...NEW WAVE??? I Don't think so buddy! Get your facts straight dude.

Oh yeah, and for your information, Anthony Rother also produces minimal techno under the name of Family Lounge. He also produces ambient under the name of Psi Performer. Talk about a man of many talents.

questioning if Carl Cox cares about the music or not ?. I have had the pleasure of hanging out with Carl on a few occasions he is one of the nicest people I have met.
Carl is a music lover , he has been djing far too many years to even be questioned
about his love for the music. Carl is one of those rare dj's that actually uses his clout to "break" new tunes and sounds, unlike the "sheepish " antics of most European dj's that play what is "hot" at that time.
I think what is due here , is some RESPECT for the "Peoples Dj". Carl was playing techno long before many would give it a chance in the "Main Room " .

I would have to strongly disagree with you on that one Techbabe!
After hearing him last summer that boy kicked some major ass!
His techno was hard and relentless, he was right into the crowd with his fist in the air and on the mic getting them going.
I have to agree it sucks having to pay the money to hear a big dj, but if you are a big fan it is well worth it.(thats if he shows up!)

PEOPLE...All I'm saying is that I've heard him play before and he bore me! That's my opinion. For all the Carl Cox lovers out there...good...keep on lovin' him. I am entitled to my opinion. Just like some of you out there might dislike some of my favourite djs/producers.
