UPDATE: The Guardian is reporting that a man, disguised as a police officer, began shooting in the town of Utoya - where Norway's prime minister Jens Stoltenberg was attending a Labour party conference.
"Police suspect that this is not international terrorism, but a local variant aimed at the standing political system, according to NTB. Police are familiar with the political subculture the suspect is aligned with."
North American media is so prudish. If you scroll visit the web page at tv2.no, and scroll down to a section called "Siste fra Klikk.no", you will find an an article (translated) "Here is a woman's erogenous zones". I don't something like this would be published on - I am assuming - the equivalent of cp24.com. I wish our media was as open as this, but its probably a reflection of North American society.
When I clicked on the Globe and Mail story and comments, people were all over talking about Muslim terrorists.
Not only is it foolish to jump to conclusions about a story like this (and now it appears the perp was ethnic Norwegian), but I was struck by how paranoid people are about Muslims in general and jihadists in particular. It's just weird. One person astutely pointed out that climate change posed a far more significant threat to humanity, only to be massively thumbed down.
Now maybe the g&m message boards aren't the best barometer of people's intelligence but wow, people sure are dumb. \end rant
