does anyone remember this movie? I think it was Patrick Dempsey that was in it - well the reason for me asking is there is a new movie coming out called "Love don't cost a thing" and it is a complete remake of this movie - I dont know why but that annoys me - Shouldn't they have to say it's a remake?

there are so few awesome 80s movies in this genre. and they want to destroy their precious memory.

Nothing is really original.
Almost eveything is recycled these days.

Shakespear covered a lot of territory in his works alone.
It's hard to be original.

What genre?

And how is this destroying the memory? Most people who go to see this movie (read:teens) won't have seen CBML.

There are seven different kinds of story that you can tell and that's it.

Sorry, it's ALL been done.

Whatever. Do you think they'll do the Harlem Shake or the Electric Slide instead of the African Anteater Ritual?

It's true - It is hard to believe that there isnt enough creativity to come up with a new idea for a movie - somone was just like lets do CBML with black people and change a few things - people get paid way to much money for doing nothing

it's kind of a genre that i made up in my head. the genre that is: romantic comedies, made in teh 80s, includes teen heart-throbs, and awesome 80s classic tunes.

sounds quite familiar to some of the 90s movies, i know. but they just aren't the same. cause they're not from the 80s! ah nevermind. i'm just being a nostalgic weenie.

that was one of my all time fave 80's flick.

so many good scenes..seth green as his annoying little brother.
the red wine all over the leather outfit, the airplane graveyard where he shows her a part of his "geek life"

awwwwwwwwwwwwwwww

But that's the thing. Most black audiences have never seen CBML, so to them it's new, and that's what studios are gambling on.

Think about Die Hard and how many different variations it's been done to death:

Under Seige (Die Hard on a boat)
Passenger 57 (Black Die Hard on a plane)
Under Siege 2 (Die Hard on a train)
Cliffhanger (Die Hard on a Mountain)
Treed Murray (Die Hard in a tree)

there are tons of others, but the studios like to target enthicities to see if there's a market for it, as enthic audiences tend to respond well to seeing a person of their own race in the lead. Doesn't matter if it's been done before, they'll do it again, and again and again.

Amanda Peterson was 80's hot.

That show she was in with Wilford Brimley and Shannon Doherty was fire hot.
