That David Johnston report is a scam. Most Canadians now understand the CCP is heavily influencing the PM and his party. He still hasn't shut down the Chinese police stations in Canada which means he is maintaining them. More apparently are opening, even now.

I dunno the whole China thing also feels like a scam, an ideological game domestic politicians play to create an Enemy they can trash to get votes from people scared of foreign threats.

Pretty old playbook.

Not saying the Johnston report is perfect but the anti China thing also has its own domestic forces pushing the narrative for their own reasons: profit and votes. Ericsson and others made big money after Huawei stuff got ripped out for example.

I'm expecting once all the cards on the table we'll see China attempted influence and meddling but effect size was minimal and not all that instrumental in achieving any serious political outcome.

The world has changed massively and this lot of politicians (all parties) is not up to the task of leading Canada through it. It's all theatre and bad theatre at that. Fewer and fewer people are voting, because, why? It's musical chairs and backroom deals.

I don't know about Jack in hindsight. I voted for him repeatedly and knew Olivia, but I was absolutely dismayed when the very first thing Jack did in office as leader of the NDP was to vote with the PCs to agree to bomb Libya. I thought they were pacifist. Turns out, not at all. They create wonderful images of how they are, but in reality, they are actually just self serving politicians. The last straw for me and the NDP was During the G20 when Olivia, then an NDP MP, was in Toronto dining with the Indian Prime Minister and other politicians for the G20. This, when Torontonians were kettled in the pouring rain by a circle of nameless police thugs in riot gear. , some of our TRIBE members were among the kettled.

Olivia was the only person who could have stopped it by going down there herself. It would have pulled the world media spotlight there and immediately freed those people. It was smack in the middle of her riding. It was on live TV. She hid away and did nothing for those people. I was texting her all afternoon about what was happening and telling her to go down there, but she did not respond, she was enjoying fine wines and cheeses with fellow politicians, far more important than her constituents. Than Torontonians.. It was irresponsible and frankly, shameful. But revealing. Had she left that dinner and gone down to help those people I would have voted for her forever. Now, I know she's completely full of shit, just like the rest of them.

They all do what they want and everything politicians at this level do is carefully planned and contrived. They are always thinking 4 or 5 steps ahead, like those pool players who make a shot that leaves the balls in the best places only for themselves. Getting re-elected is all they care about fundamentally. I think they are perhaps parasitic or perhaps even fungal in nature.

I've been politically independent my entire life. If I ever became financially secure there's a very, very (very) good chance I'd transform into an activist-batman the likes of which has never been seen. Political parties, big business/donors, the police, and foreign interests are overdue being put into check.
