It's the second coming of Jesus! He's back! As a member of the federal Conservatives, via the human vessel known as Pierre Poilievre!
…and Steve Harper’s last appointed Minister of Families, Children and Social Development.

Chew on that, for a little while. ;)

O'Toole's gonna get booted right after the election. Get the feeling they're going to go further right or back to Harper times
. O’Toole is done. The CPOC is already swinging harder-right. They just don’t have the face for it. What they want is Maxime Bernier - but not from Quebec. They’ve alienated half of their social base as a result of their centrist policy, since Harper. They lost that election because Harper was a fucking wing-nut and Canada was done with his cronyism and fake nod to “transparency” (not that Pony-boy isn’t doing the same). Now, they’ll try to mobilize the rubes. See: broke-ass xenophobes, “anti-socialists”, homophobes, truthers and gun-nuts. They’ve been flip-flopping for power since their inception. We’re approaching the 44th Federal election, since 1867. GET OUT AND VOTE! Fuck these people.

I’ve spent most of my cognoscente life watching this party self-implode and try to re-invent itself. Every re-invention has been a plea to those who like the way “things used to be”.

In the immortal words of the Housemartins...

“Do you remember the good old days?
An empty stomach and a tear-stained face
Do you remember how it used to be?
The walking dead in the factory
I won't talk because
It's not as it was
You don't want the sack
Then don't doff your cap

{we are not going back}
don't back pedal down a broken track
{we are not going back}
"I'm alright jack" is an easy trap
{we are not going back}
no more need for wearing all black
{we are not going back}
"I'm alright jack" is an easy trap

Do you remember the daily pain
Of walking arouhnd with a ball and chain?
Do you recall when it was hard built fair?
You got your share on a line of a prayer.

Please put in my box
Some money for socks
Don't turn back the clocks
It's not as it was

We are not going back.
"I'm alright jack" is an easy trap.”

It's funny how they're trying to keep the reform party roots by keeping the leadership race candidates from the Prairies and nothing else. They want to win, but they want nothing to do with Quebec, much less acknowledge them. How do they figure they can win without them?

Ontario tables omnibus labour legislation bill that includes a ban on non-compete clauses

Ontario Labour Minister Monte McNaughton today tabled a bill with a long list of labour-law changes, unveiled over the past week, that he says are aimed at redressing imbalances in the work force, including a ban on non-compete clauses and rules forcing businesses to allow delivery drivers to use their washrooms.

A non-compete clause typically attempts to ban an employee from taking their talents to a competitor after leaving their job – sometimes for years. The growing use of these clauses has been flagged as a problem across North America.

The provincial government also says the bill is the first legislation in Canada that would give employees the right to disconnect outside of work hours. It would require employers with 25 or more staff to develop disconnecting-from-work policies, which could include expectations about response time for e-mails outside of work hours.

Erin O'Toole's getting turfed today, his public embrace of the convoy didn't help him apparently and 35 MPs are ready to toss him. Maybe should have waited a bit longer for the Nazi flags to come out before jumping on that populist bandwagon, though I doubt it would've made a difference for him internally with the party.

I worry though, who will take his place - Pierre Poliviere wants his seat.

He made the mistake of not taking out his dissenters early, to consolidate his power.
That party seems to be facing the same issues as the US Republican party. In the end though, Like Theo says, they're all pals.

It's all a huge piece of theater - at our expense.

in terms of winning a general election, O'Toole is certainly the bigger threat - kind of hope they nominate some jerkface kid-looking little troll like Pierre - he won't make a dent in a general

I'm not quite as willing to write off Poliviere - he's one of the few leftovers from Harper's days that is a lot more cunning than I originally was willing to give him credit for. Yes, he's prone to theatrics - like him holding on to the Canadian Flag as a spear while hiding during the attack on Parliament Hill and not letting it go of the flag until cameras were around to witness it. But those theatrics play big with the current populism fans we have.

I get the feeling if he gets the reins, he'll follow something a lot closer to Trump's politics in an attempt to avoid the party fizzling out. Pierre's going to have to contend with losing Conservative voters to Bernier. Pierre isn't the kind of guy to go centrist to win voters back; he doesn't have the slightest clue how to and doesn't want to do the work needed - instead, he'll want to out-right wing the fringe.

They can't choose Ford - he doesn't speak a lick of French and he doesn't have the discipline to learn.

Without Quebec, the CPC doesn't stand a chance. All it would take is one French debate and they'd be toast.
