Can someone explain Speakers, and Ohm rating?

My TV has an AMP in it for Surround speakers and a center channel.

Center Channel 8 Ohm
Surround 16 Ohm

I know that it would be better to just get an AV Reciever and hook up to that, but for the interim.,... was thinking of getting speakers for my TV.

Can I use any Speakers for my TV??? or do I need to look for specific Ohm Ratings on the speakers?

Almost all house speakers are 8 OHM(except sub woofers[you get too much distortion at low resistance])
You should be o.k. with anything. but, you would be better off with a shitty stereo(not even 5.1) then the t.v.

what is the model of the TV? that will help out since it seems odd to be driving external speakers directly, usually most TVs have RCA outs that require you to interface to a receiver.

anyways.

that rating is a MINIMUM load rating, and again it seems odd that the center speaker is rated at 16 ohms. Most speakers are 8ohm and if you plug an 8ohm speaker into a 16ohm rated output you may cause damage to either/or the speakers or the amp by overdriving them.

Watcher: Sorry, but that TV is no good at all. I can take it off your hands if you like, otherwise it's pretty much useless to you.

Buuuuuttttt, if you really want to keep it, then I guess it'll do.

From the looks of it (there doesn't seem to be any specs available from Samsung) you can throw your speakers directly on the outputs. Make sure you don't use any cheapy boombox attachable speakers though, those tend to be around 4-6 ohms and may cause problems like I explained above. Proper home stereo speakers will be fine ... as for the center channel - like I said, it seems odd that they require a 16ohm speaker.

I can check into that further when i get home.

but, like i said. you may be better off just giving me the Tv and I can dispose of it properly in my living room.

Hahaha... This TV ROCKS

480P all the way.... got myself a Progressive Scan DVD player(Samsung aswell) and it is the Best Picture quality I've seen.

Now... I've got the TV, I've got the DVD Player, but I have no Audio System.

I guess it'll be my next big investment.

I'm somewhat of a New Audiofile, I love Quality over Quantity of sound anyday.

-Nick... got 5000$ I can borrow?
