Can Anyone Read Cantonese?

Fyi: Cantonese doesn't have it's own written dialect. Mandarin and Cantonese both share the same "alphabet" -there's no alphabet but I'm having a brain fart right now.
General rule of thumb is that all Chinese people read the same symbols and use the same written language with some variation but we all speak different languages and dialects. Cantonese is a completely different language from Mandarin.
