anyone been?

my friend's birthday is coming up, and some of our mutual friends want to take him out to this bar ... we're all mid 20s

i don't know much about it, but their website has some photos, and it looks a bit out of my usual price range ... and the music description says "deep soulful house r&b and hiphop" but from what i've seen at other clubs, this might just mean playing a nightcrawlers / avh track and moving on to top40 hiphop

thanks for any info you can provide (music, crowd, reputation, opinions, anecdotes, etc)

Haven't been for a while but it was o.k. Very cool looking inside but a bit "uppity".

Kind of an older crowd than your average club.

(or at least it was the night I was there)

It's owned by the Liberty Group. It's just like any other Lounge/Club that caters to late 20's early 30's that don't do E and G.

What is your price range?

Yah I've been

its not THAT frou frou... seemed like quite a few try *really* hards were present when I went. And they need to dim the lights earlier! People were kind rude too, which is weird for an older more well dressed crowd - but bartenders and staff were nice ...I think it would be better to go in summer also, cause now they just have the ice lounge on the patio.

I don't know what your usual price range is, but it's average Toronto night club prices ($5-6/drink). I wouldn't expect too much from the music, it's basically top 40 dance, hip hop, and r&b. It's an alright place if you don't mind these mainstream kind of places. It's nice in the summer as they have a Miami style patio. This winter they had the ice bar there, but I don't know if that has melted or not.

I think the crowd is mostly people who don't party that much...

in toronto i usually expect guvernment / system style prices .. $5-6 / beer

i read on clubcrawlers (shoot me please) that the couches are only for bottle service customers and start around $300, which i thought was ridiculous

i'm assuming that's an incorrect observation ..

Get a booth if you are having a party with a few friends - and if you can afford one. It gets quite crowded....

*edit, sorry I have no idea about prices of things :p

i've never ordered by the bottle! :)

so for $300, is it a 40oz or a 26oz?

40oz = (40oz) / (1.5oz/shot) = 26 shots .. $300 / 26 shots = $11 / shot

26oz ...(skip the math) ... $17 / shot

hmm, $11 per shot doesn't sound too great .. and $17 / shot is ridiculoos ..

A bunch of the people there are parents. Where do you come up with these generalizations?

C Lounge is really nice, but don't expect it to be as high-class, pretentiuos or shi-shi as it once was. The crowd is no longer all upscale, you'll see that it's quite mixed, but overall a good vibe.
I go there mostly on Monday nights, the price range is average... I wouldn't say it any more expensive than most places in Toronto.
The music is very average... top 40, hip hop, r&b, mainstream house/dance.
Right now, they still have the Ice bar outside, which is beautiful... but like, $5 or $10 more to access (and they give you a huge white fluffy coat to where in there cause it's so cold).
Cover is usually $5 - $10 each (although could be more on a weekend night).
The door staff is generally really friendly.
The dresscode is upscale... jeans allowed as long as they're "dressy".

Overall, it's a very nice place, and you will definitely enjoy it (even if you choose not to return).

Well it's a ten person maximum for a booth, so if you multiply that by $30 it's the cost of an average night out.

I used to do Fridays there. It's a nice place, but nothing to write home about.

at $11 / shot, i don't think too many parents will be there

childless 30-40 year olds, sure :)

you assumed wrong.

Also (last time I went, a few years ago) they handpick at the door so arrive with good looking girls or you could spend quite awhile outside.

$30 for 2 drinks is not an "average night out" for me ..
