how can I find out if someone has a business registered in Ontario?

You can do a search using the terminals at the Ontario Small Business centres.

I haven't done this in a while since my company is almost 4 years old now. I went to the business office near 4 corners in Brampton.

Use the blue pages to find a small business centre near you.

good idea but i can't ask them if i already did and they said yes

trouble is in my line of work i don't believe them and i have to cover my ass by finding out through the government

before i start my search i want to find out if its even possible or if it goes beyond some privacy laws

I'd also suggest calling the Companies Branch of the Ministry of Consumer
and Business Services - they deal with registration of businesses in
Ontario.

The number is 416-314-8880. I'm sure they can tell you if the info is
available or not.
