i used to love speed garage...

i just hated that there wasn't any innovation in the shit
that started coming out later in 97 and 98... it was all
cookie cutter...

that is, until it morphed into 2-step/uk garage, of course.

this is a fun speed garage set but fairly cliche ;0)

still, nice to go back, haven't rinsed any of these out for years ...

I've thought about dropping Double 99 Ripgroove recently.
:D :D :D

Still thinking about it.
:D

It is the track that started it all isn't it?
Or maybe Sugar is sweeter?

I think I have almost all the tracks in your set.
:)

i think they attriubte that song as the first SG track...

altho i think there were others, most notably some of
the work ARMAND VAN HELDEN was doing before that
song...

I think the Double 99 was the first SG tune that got
that label... just like Jesse Saunders' ON AND ON wasn't
really the first house record, but it was the first record
that was labelled and marketed as house.

well I wouldnt know the track that started it all but the track that started it for me was

Spin Spin Sugar, I love it

but to tell u the truth no matter how laughable the genre Speed Garage is. It had some cool elements that I find lacking in present day House music.

IE.. I find house music beat structure a little too stiff nowadays. I understand that house musics staple is the 4 beat pattern but their are many ways to "funk it up", like adding offbeat snares into the mix. Its a great way to add "snap" and "shuffle"

Armand was the master of this, so was Kerri chanlder(sp?), E-smoove, Todd edwards...I could go on...

What Happend??

I might have one from back in the day.
:)

I'll have a look.
But It will probably be a transfer from tape so the quality won't be stellar.
