Yes I have!

I asked if I could see the place for a second time, when I arrived I told him I didn't need to see the place a third time to want it. He told me there was compition for the spot. I handed him an evnvelope with 500 in cash.

Got the keys the next morning.

I thought it was a renter's market right now?

Bribing the landlord? Fuck em. Are you gonna let them know they own you right from the start?
You think they won't remember that when the fridge is broken and the roof leaks?

I say portray yourself as a responsible, long term tennant and a good landlord will choose you over whatever screwup happens to have a wad of cash to get in 'cause he doesn't have good references or a good job. If he wan't to go for the short term gain and pick somebody 'cause they have a bribe then I wouldn't want to have him for my landlord anyhow.

And don't forget that just cause you give the guy an extra 500 under the table he's not just going to take it and give the place to somebody else anyhow. Why would a guy who takes bribes give a shit about being fair to you, the tennant?

Tell them strait up" I want this apartament, what do I have to do to get it?" You walk like you want shit, you talk like you want shit, you get shit, keep in mind that you gonna have to give some shit.

it is a commercial studio Im looking at getting, Y es it is a renters market now , so the place is up for a good price , thus the competition. Im not looking to give the cash and have them skip all the credit check, I just know my credit is fine and references will check out, but what if the others do as well.

I know she might pocket the cash, but I might also get the place.

Im just seeing if this is common, or something you only see on TV

i wouldn't risk giving a big wad of untraceable cash to someone who has no investment in you whatsoever.
then again, i also hate casinos and gambling.

might not be a good idea if you want a reliable landlord...

if the landlord is willing to take a bride then they might be dishonest in lots of other aspects too...

the place we got was kinda like that...we didn't bribe the landlords but we knew that the competition was going away for a week (and they were already promised the place) so we went and bugged the landlords while they were gone and ended up signing the lease before the competition for the place came back...

that was dishonest of our landlords (and us) because they had said they would hold it for the other people but we were just happy we got the place at the time....

now we realize that's not the only thing they are shady about because they are absolutely horrible landlords who made many promises they didn't keep to us, refuse to do repairs, come in to our place when we arent' there, ect...

might not be worth it in the long run...

I don't even know if they'll take the bribe.

so maybe I should go with the mini muffins, not so much a bribe as a nice gesture.

What Noco said. If your landlord accepts a bribe, I wouldn't trust that person to help me out when I need it. Seriously, if you call him up and ask that person if he/she has made a decision, I'm sure they will get the hint that you're really interested in this place.

yah..I just called them, but I can't read her, and have no clue how this is going to play out. So Ive made a second appointment to get over and see the place again. I won't go the bribe root at this point ( well I'll try not to, Im a very weak person when I want something)
