what, no one cares about brett johnson's first canadian appearance?
started out the night at nasa. hadn't been there for a while, dunno why not, cuz it is a cool little spot. listened to a great early night set by a dj named joe........something. i'm pretty sure it is smiley joe from tribe cuz he said he used to spin under the name smiley joe, but now it is just joe...? (i'm so sorry i can't remember your last name joe, i'll post smiley joe to see if it's you). along with joe's set another highlight at nasa was this big, old, burly, drunk, foreign guy (i thought he was french but my buddy thought russian?) dancing and yelling, and hollering over the music. i couldn't tell what he was saying or who he was saying it too, so i jus chuckled till he was politely asked to leave (i assume for being stinking drunk before 11:00).
things at element started off nicely with matt lunnen, joel smye, and mike d tag teaming the upstairs. matty, you ARE that brandy remix. got downstairs a little late for brett johnson's first track but he was setting the stage nicely with some deep funky house. i thought he might stay all soulful and jazzy (which would have been aight), but he built the groove to the dirtier, electric, quirky sound that he has become known for through his productions and remixes. i had been waiting to hear him spin, not knowing if he was like many a wicked producer who can't rock a jam on the decks. but brett delivered, he turned that mothafucka out! apart from a couple biffs, his mixing was on point, his flow was smooth and he had the crowd wrapped around his pinky. the music was awesome and he had me sweatin' like i kicked a habit, and dancin' like a fool on more than one occasion. i wish i could play name that tune but trust me, it all rocked, and none of it sucked. crowd was great, lots of sexy ladies, lots of obvious brett johnson fans (i love the crowd at element cuz everyone really seems to know their stuff, and know when they are hearing good music - imo - does that mean in my opinion
)
thanx to brett for coming from dallas (y'all come back now y'hear), and thanx to solma and element for another great, intimate night of red bull&vodkas, stellas, and my kind of house music.
