I've been listening to Blur's new album "think tank".....I really like it.

i'd like to hear a little more about them.....i mean i got the basics, but has anyone seen em live, or have anything "interesting" to add to my introduction back into blur.

live pictures would be nice. (alas there are non on the official)

try finding some tracks by the band 'wire' as well as early electronic music such as can a neu- they have all influenced blur a fair bit.

I've seen them about 8 times or so, and several times I've hung out with them many a time before and after the shows. I just have this knack of getting in good with bands. Honestly, I've had some of the funnest nights with them. Got lots of memorobilia from them too.

I am not too fond of the new album. But get their older stuff. FAR better. Parklife is solid (if a bit commercial sounding). Great Escape is good too. And once you like those, listen to Modern Life is Rubbish and Leisure.

In fact, I am going to put some one now. ;)

Cheers ... Ian :)

think tank is a great CD, in fact Q magazine listed it as the best album of 2003

I saw them when they played the Kool Haus this June and it was one of the best shows of 2003

Not quite...7 albums + various live/b-sides/best of ones.

Leisure, Modern Life is Rubbish, Parklife, The Great Escape, Blur, 13, Think Tank. The first three are very much structured Brit Pop while the last three tried to move away into a more indie-rock/experimental sound. Parklife is usually considered their best in terms of the Brit Pop feel. Leisure is kinda shoe-gazerish and while I love it because it got me into the band, they definitely grew in leaps and bounds by the time they made Modern Life. The difference between the two sounds (Brit Pop/indie rock) is quite amazing...doesn't always sound like the same band, IMO.

They also have a Live at the Budokan album, a Japanese b-sides set, Bustin' and Dronin' (remixes), a Best of, and a pricey boxset of all their singles up to, I think, the "Blur" album.

Seen them a bunch of times live and they are amazing...though their shows are a little less chaotic now. Damon used to get drunk and do all kinds of crazy things but now they have additional musicians and back-up singers so the shows are less spontaneous. Oh, and Graham Coxon, their incredibly talented guitarist, left during Think Tank because he didn't like their new musical direction. :(

They've been one of my favourite bands for 11 years and I still really enjoy them.

blur are fantastic. i was totally impressed by their concert here this past summer (it was the first time that i have seen them live)...one of the best shows i have ever been to. "think tank" is great, but my favourite album is "leisure", just cos i love that shoe-gazery kinda sound. but yeah, they've totally moved on from that...do sound like a totally different band. an excellent one at that, might i add.

Yeah, I was really really surprised by how much I enjoyed the show they played at KH. I also saw them at Field Day with Radiohead, and they were great there as well.

Think Tank is definitely a grower, as was 13. Sweet Song is one of my favourite tunes of the last year or so.

I think I have to think out Think Tank now. I pretty much stopped listening to Blur after 13. The only song I liked on that album was "Coffee and Tea" (I think that was the name of the song). Parklife and Leisure are my fave albums with Modern Life is Rubbish a close second. Chemical World is on of my fave songs ever.

I am still trying to figure out a way to get the "Live Forever" documentary onto a DVD format that I can view on my player at home. Damon is hilarious in it.

I've tried several conversion utilities, but no success (yet!). If they just released it in NTSC format, I would buy it, but they don't see mto have any plans to do so.

Cheers ... Ian :)

to put leisure in perspective...it came out in the shadows of the stone roses - stone roses & charlatans - some friendly...nevermind that the happy mondays were at their peak...but nevertheless a great album, & definitely part of the madchester invasion of the early 90's...

she's so high, she's so high...

ps & they do rock live!!!!!!!!

This thread must have made me had a dream last night. I dreamt that I met up with Blur again and went over to Dave Rowntree and said "Hey, you probably need these more than I do" and I gave him back his drumsticks that he gave to me at one concert.

BTW, I am sure most of the people posting in this thread, have seen the movie "24 Hours Party People", but if you haven't, I would recommend you watch it. Parts of it were filmed in my hometown. ;)

Cheers ... Ian :)

It is all over the net. The only problem is it is in PAL format, not NTSC.

If I can figure out how to convert it I can burn the DVD for anyone who wants it.

Cheers ... Ian :)

I know it pretty stupid to recommend their greatest hits album, but if you can pick up the limited edition format with the bonus Cd then thats pretty good as it covers loads of their live stuff. I may be biased as I come from the same town as Blur though....
