Blue Jays 2016

The American League is totally up for grabs and I think the Jays have the best overall team right now. They are rounding into form with 2 months left - a few more key trades to get a good reliever and I guess another starter is what they need.

From everything I have heard, they know this is their last year with a legit shot as they will likely lose Bautista and Saunders next season (assuming they can keep Edwin). I think that's the right move. No other team in the AL looks dominant - the Jays as well positioned for a run at the Series.

Biggest question is what to do with Sanchez? Do you play safe and move him to the pen? They have a huge hole there and could use a shut down guy in the 8th, but then you also lose your best starter...

What would you do?

I wouldn't look too hard/give up too much for another starter. Their top 4 are doing great overall and Dickey is Dickey, who would get dropped in the post season in a 4 man rotation. To get a quality starter before the trade deadline you'll have to give up too much.

Greatest need I think is as you say is one or two quality relievers for the 7th/8th innings.

If the season ended today, I'd go with this rotation in the playoffs:

1) Estrada
2) Sanchez
3) Happ
4) Stroman

setup: Cecil/Grili
closer: Osuna

If Cecil gets back to his old form, then I'm not as concerned. If not, another lefty setup man would put us over the top.

Think Gibby will go with this?

1) Stroman (mistake if at the #1 spot)
2) Estrada
3) Happ
4) Dickey (anything above this spot is a huge mistake)

setup: Sanchez/Cecil/Grili
closer: Osuna

i don't think Stro starts game 1. he'd be way too jacked, hasn't been consistent enough and given what estrada did last year in the playoffs, i think he's your playoff go-to. having to play a play in game/WC game would be a tough call bc of what it would do to the rotation (assuming they won).

Sure the top 4 have been great but they need some insurance. Jays starters have been incredibly healthy this season, if one guy goes down then they're in trouble. If Sanchez goes to the pen there's another spot they need to fill. Next guy up is Drew Hutch and then there's not much left after him. I would look for a starter in the 5th or 6th spot role.

Good pick up on Benoit. One more reliever and a starter and I think we're set up pretty good.

Yeah it's a real conundrum. I very much want to see Sanchez finish the season as a starter. He's on a crazy run - 16 straight without a loss and 10 straight victories I think. Lowest ERA in the AL among starters. It's a Cy worthy season and he's only getting stronger is seems. I hope he gets to stay in the rotation just to see how good he can be.

But I see the other side, and you can't go wrong with a lights out set-up man, and Osuna has proven to be a good closer.

Real tough call on Gibbons part, though I wonder who really makes that call? Atkins? Shapiro? This one will be debated all season and beyond...

How about them trades? We have some more lefties now but are they really that effective? Looks like Sanchez is going to the pen now.

The Sanchize story continues to unfold. Sounds like Jays upper management got over-ruled by the clubhouse, who complained that the long-term forecast of one player (Sanchez) shouldn't override the short-term forecast of the entire team. I bet Bats and Donaldson put up a huge stink and got support from Aaron, who clearly wants to keep starting. He's a legit Cy Young contender, as is J.A. Happ, which is nutty. Estrada is having a great year as well -- who would have thought the Jays would have arguably the best staff in the AL after losing David Price. Baseball is crazy.

Anyway, another fun season! Going to be a battle the final two months. Jays last 2 series of the season are vs. B-more and Boston.

Best thing to happen for the jays was for Price to leave and for Joey bats to get out of the lineup for a while.

I think the Jays have the deepest lineup of any team.

Price is getting shredded by the Boston media and rightfully so. They'd be in first if he was on top of his game.

sign double E and let Bautista walk....

Eddie has the better bat and at this point in their careers is probably more valuable in the field as well.
