here's the latest from environment canada.

Widespread snowfall accumulations of 20 to 30 cm are expected in most areas by this evening. Some local amounts of 40 to 50 cm or more are quite likely in a few areas..Especially from the west end of Lake Ontario and eastwards into far eastern Ontario. Snowfall rates of 2 to 4 cm an hour are expected with low to nil visibility in sustained bursts of heavy snow likely.

It's so bad that even iBrad's not riding into the shop today.

Just tried to call my folks in Kingston see how it is. No answer, but if it's like what we got buckle down.

a 2 meter high snowbank outside our appartment building door.

I'm in Dubai and I really wish I was there for this awesome storm!

heyyy you're dan (?) unless there is another tribe who is also in dubai too..my friends friends with you..she told me she knows a triber but never would tell me his alias on here..anyway that's random.

now back on topic.

At least we're going to have a white xmas :)

I honestly can't remember the last time it has ever snowed like this..and especially before January!

haha.

Speaking of Kingston, anyone remeber the ice storm in 2000 or whatever it was. ?

yeah..i had roommates from Ottawa when i went to college in 2001 and she told me all about it..no power for a week..there is even a photographic black and white book about it.

Is it bad that I wished this snowstorm happened on a work day..im so busy at work that this storm would have been rad bc that means it would have been so quiet and i could actually catch up with my work..i hate xmas time at my work bc i have to send out a ton of xmas cards to the clients/brokers..and that takes freaking forever..so my normal work gets put on the back burner.

early 98 , january - the trip to work from the burbs and into the downtown core was breathtaking .

all night long was the crashing down of trees and limbs - car alarms going off as cars were struck-crushed -- power out everywhere .

that was an event

oh do I ever! I got hit by a tree as it snapped because of the ice. It sucked.

:p

Now I'm tempted to, but at this point I'm thinking a "snow day" is more appealing than proving you wrong!

The front porch of the building that littlejon and I lived in at the time was almost completely wiped off the building from trees falling and the weight of the ice.

It was insanity.

Though - we lived on a street that only lost *cable* for a while - no power losses at all, so we were ridiculously lucky. We also lived just a short walk from our favourite bar - a treacherous walk, but short. :D

The neighbourhoods were completely empty, and everything was so weirdly noisy and quiet at the same time - all the branches and ice cracking constantly, but no cars (the roads were basically completely undrivable in Ottawa for a while unless an emergency) and almost no people out and about. Stores closed, power out on a street by street basis.... but the constant *crack*crack*crack* of the ice... Eerie.

wow. crazy. I can (usually) see King street from my bed. Woke up and looked outside and all I could see was white - no sign of the street. I rubbed my eyes to make sure I was actually seeing it right. i'm glad I have nowhere to go today.

it MUST be bad then!

Didn't really start snowing here until ~7am, but since then, we've got more than 30cm. It's ridonkulous really.

I was in Kingston for the ice storm, it was during my time @ Queen's. We had no power on campus for a week.

I predict if the snow keep up like this, Toronto will be paralyzed for a good week.

Lucky. I lost all power and water and phone for a week during that ice storm. I worked for the Queens Journal at the time and we still managed to put out a paper - we all bunkered down at the Journal house for a few days with copious amounts of booze and pizza. Good times!

Bring it on! The only downside was the church ladies next door scraping and shoveling at 7am.

I just heard more thunder.....wtf?

it was predicted in the forecast. something about a pocket of mild air coming from somewhere (forget) clashing with the cold air mass = thunder.
