I want to go blonde or do some blonde streaks, and my hair is dyed a deep red right now....

I'm scared that bleaching my whole head, or even just bleaching the stips of hair i want streaked will kill my hair.......

anyone have any experience with this?

thanx =)

........maybe i should just stay red.......

I know red is suppose to be the hardest colour to get out

I'd hold off and get a professional opinion... I know lots of people who have had their hair fall out from things like that

Red is actually one of the easiest to get out.
Bleaching should be okay, as long as your hair is in good condition prior, and that you don't do it often.

It's really hard to give advice on this stuff, over the computer, cause hair color is so tempermental. Could you please tell me:
-what kind of red it is right now? (copper, orange, burgundy?)
-what is your natural hair color?
-what was the product you last used? permanent? color name?
-is your hair fine or thick?
-what color do you want to go on top of the bleach?

I don't believe you... I need proof.

my old roomate is a colour tech at capucci and he said it the hardest (he may have meant hardest on your hair).
and the irony is that it fades the quickest.

Red can be really hard to play with, as it mixes with the natural tones in the hair, and the color bases.

But brown dye is actually the hardest to get out.

I like that color....but here goes.
Use a regular blondissima, instead of super. If it comes out really orange, you might want to dye it with an ash or neutral blonde. Otherwise, use a beige blonde over the bleach hair. Consider a semi-permanent, and try a light reddish blonde. That way, mistakes are easier to fix. Streaks will be a lot harder to do, I suggest getting them done.

You might also consider talking a Shoppers cosmetician, when they can see your head, and the tone, it's alot easier to give better advice. Also, you can call the clairol hotline or l'oreal hotline. They'll do their best to sell you product, but they can offer some good tips. :)

but after about 2 years its getting a bit old....i ono =/

as for shoppers......some cosmeticians know and some dont.....the one i talked to the other day was pure ass.

=P

thanks for the help mingster!!!!!

Your way: several hours, couple of bucks and the strong possibility that you'll hate it and either have to a) do it again, or b) wear a hat for a long time.

My way: go to a colorist. Faster and easier, no worries of it fucking with your hair. So its a few extra bucks... it's well worth it in the long run imo.

WOW! That was just like on a Shoppers Commercial! For one brief and shining moment I THOUGHT I WAS LIVING IN TV LAND.
