Kevin Kline won an oscar for a fish called wanda.
Robin Williams won for Good Will Hunting, and has been nominated a total of 4 times.
So don't give me that bullshit
Personally who gives a fuck if he doesn't clap. He thought he deserved the award, which is why he showed up. He lost, and even if you don't like awards shows its got to be dissapointing.

i have a friend who until he was in university, (truthfully) believed that Whoopi Goldberg was mentally disabled. he thought that everyone made such a big deal over her as an actress because she had "come such a long way" like Corky.

I actually was sober while I saw this one.
I suppose my post was a bit trollish, and actually the movie was one of the better movies I've seen recently: but that isn't saying much, since most of what's out now actually does suck. I do feel this movie has been getting more praise than what's deserved though... It is just rehashing old ideas to an audience that might not have much experience with its subject matter - resulting in a larger than deserved reaction.
I remember thinking during this movie, "Yeah.... and?"

i like bill murray and bill murray movies.... but i think he seriously needs to get over himself, you don't disrespect a fellow nominee by not clapping. Sean Penn deserved that oscar as much as Bill Murray thought that he deserved it himself.... life is filled with disappointments especially as an actor you face rejection often, i would have figured for a man of his caliber he'd know how to accept this disappointment graciously

better acting performance this year - bill murray
better overall performances and oscar snubbs in past - sean penn
hence, he got the award this year. same reason renée zellwiger won this year, for past snubs. cause holly hunter should have won that award for her performance....but the academy has no balls.
it's all about marketing people. penn also won, cause many people in the academy probably wanted to reward mystic river somehow as they new it wasn' t going to win any of the major prizes lke best pic, screenplay, or director.
it's all about kissing the right person's ass at the right time with an award.

Well first off noone here knows he didn't clap. This is conjecture based on something someone posted. I watched the oscars, and they showed Bill Murray after Billy Crystal made a joke about him, not when Sean Penn was announced.
And Secondly who gives a fuck if anyone claps. If you're not happy about someone else winning why would you clap, why be fake?
I've always hated the fact that we are "forced" to clap or cheer or cry at precise moments when society says its what we should do. We should be our own people and if someone doesn't like it that is their problem.

thats fair enough, but then he shouldn't have bothered attending. The oscars are about honouring other people's achievements and celebrate their profession. Its about actors, directors and film industry workers coming together to celebreate their work. Also...it's called common cuortesy, everyone deserves it. I'm not saying he has to woop and holler but don't sit there like a cry baby.... sulking it makes him look pathetic.
Bill Murray is the funniest motherf&%cker alive today ... hands down! He went to the stinky awards show because some industry organiser gave him the inside scoop that he was going to win and it would be bad form for him not to show up for an OCSAR! so of course he was pissed when Penn won, he was lied to ... and he could have been co'chillin at home with a forty and some p'corn instead of at a big a55 kiss fest like the oscars. I know this because my sisters husband cousing saw him at 15 Flavours getting a cone after the awards show and she got the whole scoop

Whoopi Goldberg started her career as a stand-up comic and then became an actress. And she did all those "Comic Relief" appearances, the last one being just a few years ago.
