Big Bud - Oct 13th

Since the beginning of time, I have been craving for Hip Hop at parties. Having had the pleasure on only a few occasions, they had been some great nights (it's all about the music).

I feel that Toronto is lacking in the (good) Hip Hop equation. And I had recently began to miss it. I know that Toronto as individuals loves Hip Hop, and so they do as a group.

I do not know the reason for this travesty, that of the lack of soul music. Nor do I know whether the music was the reason the party was so alive, just like back in the day.

But I can say this. From the moment I got there, till the moment I left, and probably much longer, that party was peaking. And the vibe was energy. The floor was wet and dirty, the ladies room was bad. Just like back in the day.

I loved it.

Arrived at the Docks at around 11pm, and stood in what looked like an ungoidly line for only 10 minutes, which was very impressive. The security kept things moving nicely, and no one really seemed to get hassled by them at all.

Caught the end of Mystikal Influence's set when we got inside, and boy oh boy was he tight. Great tunes, and whoever was MC'ing with him (sorry, I forget) was not too bad at all.

After Mystikal was Jr. Flo which was alright, but nothing extrodinary. I remember seeing the Funky Techniczians at Kick-it last year, and was more impressed by the three of them together than by Jr. Flo by himself. Some of that shit still managed to put a big smile on my face though.

Next was Choclair. At this point, my friends and I retreated to Candy Land as we dubbed it to watch the happy hardcore crew make idiots of themselves.

While waiting for Choclair to finish we witnessed Anabolic Frolic trainwreck 6 mixes. Pretty sure he broke two needles doing it too. All he span was Happy to be Hardcore Vol. 2 & 3 pretty much, which is fine since it's his shit, but I don't even like Happy Hardcore and I could practically call out the name of the next track before he put it on. Then again, I'm jaded and don't like HH, so what do I know?

After Choclair retreated, Marcus was on and for me he totally was the highlight of the night. Dope beats all the way, dropping wicked anthems, and getting everyone hyped. Friendlyman and Caddy-Cad did the MC shit, and they were excellent. Props to those guys.
Marcus, you fucking rock everytime I see you.

After Marcus was Kenny Ken and MC Skibadee.
I was dissappointed..

I saw Kenny Ken at MadBar a few months back, and he was fucking sick good, and I saw Skibadee with Shy FX @ BodyRoc in August, and I liked that. But mixing the two elements was no good. Either that or Skiba's mic was just too fucking loud, but he annoyed the HELL out of me. I couldn't get into the tunes at all really. Best part of Kenny's set I stuck around for was "Everyman".

Took off around 3:15am. All in all had a great time. The usual shitty stuff, too crowded, poor ventilation (open a fucking door guys), and the toilet exploding in the mens bathroom (That was kinda funny actually). But it was all good.

obviously you don't even know who I am since I spun at 6am and closed out that second room ;P. I got to the party around 4:30. Pleasantly surprised to see a packed parking lot at that time. Played as many dubplates as I thought the crowd could handle and I thought my set went pretty well actually. Was having a pretty good time and was ready to continue but security put the lights on and started to kick everyone out so I had to wrap it up quickly. Thanks to everyone who stayed with me till the end.

Mad apologies to Anabolic Frolic, My mistake completely. I was going based on what the time list in the HH room said. Completely my mistake. Whoever was spinning at around Midnight to 1:00am was who I happened to catch. Also I was under the impression it was you as almost all of the material is from your compilations. Again, my apologies.

I had a great time on Saturday nite.

I had no idea I was going until one of my old friends from college stopped by on Sat afternoon.

So we had a few beers and made a few calls and decided to tour down to Cherry Street to the winter party venue otherwise known as the Docks.

Got inside by midnite...Choclair was meh..but then again Im not a big hip hop fan so maybe he was good for some of the people in attendance.

Marcus rinced out the main stage!
Track after track...great set indeed.
Had me dancing non-stop.

Kenny Ken lived up to his mix 'n' blend nick...spinning mostly a 94ish ragga set with a few tech anthems thrown in for good measure. Skibadee...I have no idea how this man keeps up his style.A lyrical assault. Nobody was standing still!
He had the crowd very into it!

Now hear is where the party gets a little unexpected.

In the back room...OS/2 played TINRIB!
What the hell was that?

His set was the best of the night.....he spun nothing but track after track of GOOD trance...the man was right into it too...pumping his fists in the air and everything.
Good job!

The place was packed, but not to the point where u couldnt move. Dancing in the jungle room was kinda tricky but u could find room if u looked!
The only complaint I have for this one was the location of the bar.
What the hell was that?
I stood in line for a good half hour with no movement et-all.
Ended up going completely sober, and still had a great time!

worth the drive to Acton

what??? Skibadee annoyed you?? wow...I guess to each his own they say...
Kenny Ken put on an amazing set...one of the
better parties I've been to lately.
The energy in the place was totally overwhelming.
Not much of a Choclair fan at all...but, whatever. The only annoying thing to me all night was some eleventeen year old pushing people
outta her way so she could cut some tile. People don't have to be so friggin rude about it man, ask me nicely and I'll move. I'm getting a little to old to put up with attitude from someone who comes up to my elbow.
Other than that, the vibe was awesome.

Rob Solo was fuckin awesome. Nice, funky house grooves, cutting in and out of breaks, some booty and ghetto tek. Ass and titties baby, its all about ass and titties. He even dropped in Jay-z's 'Big Pimpin.' So fucking smooth. I was really impressed and hope to see more of Mr.Solo soon.
Props mate.
