impossible task

its hard enough to narrow it down to ten, let alone one, so I'm staying out of this.

the blah,blah,blah part...

Just thinkin' how much more real lemon D is as a producer compared to his buddy karl"crazy bass" francis,I mean listen to 'manhatten melodies" twice in a row and tell me that is the best tune ever!

dillinja is mass produced and mass bought...too repetitive with his tunes, same bassline.Lemon has more of a natural funk to him and it shows in the studio!

I'm gonna say Ed & Opt because they've released the roughest, most twisted tracks ever (Alien Girl and Cutslo should be reason enough).

And Omni Trio because of those sweet sweet basslines.

furthermore, I would like to add.

Aphex Twin
and...
Square Pusher

to my list.

not really a tech fan...I know I know... odd man out huh?

it's is mega tough cuz so many producers have made tunes that i dig...

here's a short list

ED Rush, Optical and Trace
Zinc
OLD Dillinja
John B (although i prefer is older stuff)
J Majik (new stuff is better than his old gear)

current faves:
Stakka and Skynet
Kemal and Rob Data

I can't get enuff of this sci-fi tech sound...soundtrack material right there.

Metalheads.
I know that covers so many people, but face it, every single one of those assholes you guys have named is Metalheads.
Goldie, Ed & Optical, Dillinja. . .
Think of producers of other styles: Aphex and Squarepusher, how about the Chemical Bros. or the Crystal Method, I didn't see anyone mention Photek, or Special Forces.
I think, though, producers in the hardcore vein, Source Direct has got to take the cake, their tunes are so fucked up, so bass heavy and completely new beat structures no one even comes close to touching them.

Photek and Source Direct also released tunes under Metalheadz. Why are the other guys 'assholes' ?????

Basically i named people who have helped create a certain style of drum 'n bass...the list could go on and on...Photek and Source Direct most certainly apply to that list.

Totally. I have the utmost respect for al of them, they're all light years ahead of where I am, and have already had a huge impact on the way tunes are produced. I guess any producer that is original and pushes a style forward, or even sets a new standard or trend is a God. They're all assholes because I am sick with envy when I look at their studios and I'ma burnt-out raver kid: they are dieties of sonic craftiness and overlords of dread bass noises.
