Best of Syrous/Lifeforce at Turbo???

I definatley fit the description of 'lurker' but I have been talking about this with my friends and feel that it must be shared!
I think that it would be an excellent tape pack let alone an excellent product to market if Syrous/Lifeforce released a compilation of all the KILLER sets that the UK boys have thrown down at Turbo as a way to celebrate what was an amazing Drum and Bass year of 2001. Certain Djs sets stand out as being must haves. Andy C from I Dance after party (though already released) Dj Die, Ray Keith, Stakka Skynet, Shimon, and this is just to name a few. Just a thought but just like the British record companies release compilations (Dreamscape and Best of British) it would be kinda cool if all these sets that were thrown down in Turbo be shared with the world as a Drum and Bass collection. Besides it would make whoever made them a fortune! Just a thought what do all of you think?

That i must say is a brilliant idea.....

maybe they can put some of the best local sets mixed into their, Mystical tore that place down many times as did Sniper and Lush just to name a few.......

What a nice X-mas gift that would be.

RIP Turbo

The set MArcus and Mystikal span together the same night as Ink and Loxy. OMG. Best tandem Dj'ing I've ever seen.

JJF @ Turbo was dope too.. Andy C..

Sigh.. memories..

If you guys want a collection put together, give me a list of your top ten tapes. When I get the time, I'll post all the tapes we still have.

If the response is good, I'll see what I can do!

A big YES to all of these.
Any of the locals sets recorded? Lush and Sniper usually were always on point.

I was thinking more along the lines of a 2001 collection. There is just so much that went down in Turbo trying to rate and compare all of it is pretty much impossible. I'd have to say that in my opinion I would like to see: Andy C (I dance after party), Shimon (in the basement), Total Science, Ray Keith, Dj Die and the last Syrous Session at Turbo with Stakka and Skynet. If you wanted to throw locals in there I think that they are deserving of their own compilation. Mystical, Sniper, INS, Unknown Souljah (very underrated) Peace

Ya, your right eh. A compilation highlighting the best from both years would be really good. I honestly don't know why people arren't picking up on this idea. It has the potential to make a lot of dough.
ah well...

it's kinda ironic that my favourite turbo night actually pre-dates its existence by a few weeks... when syrous threw 'deep in the jungle' at jet; with randall (amazing set) and the usual suspects with fearless and fats runnin the mic. (btw why hasnt fats been in TO in like 2yrs!?)

other good nights at turbo all happened with dnb in the basement!!: andyc , bad company (not the tuesday they were there), SS w. warren G, and more recently hype and skibba (although i was hoping to see GQ there as the fyler suggested) heheh

all in all, turbo has represented the flux of the rave-jungle scene to whatever we have presently. and i find with the setting being 'fixed' its hard to seperate my many nights there (or maybe thats the alcohol and herb talking)

You thought so??? I didn't think it was very impressive at all. Then again, I thought that entire night was one of the worst at Turbo. The set wasn't very fluid....they were all over the place...build up..bring down..build up bring down...they just didnt follow through to the end...granted they were opening for Ink/Loxy, but still... anyway, I'm rambling.

It would be nice to see a local battle night, a fight to the finish. A nice 3 hr battle b/n Marcus and Mystical would be sick (amongst many others)....our locals could blow the roof of the place...it would be a nice change to (from the usual).

damn you know what yer talking about ... the suv & dynamite set in the basement was my favorite night ever at turbo ... die a few weeks ago was also totally killer (altho not many people seem to agree with me) ... those are the top two sets i've seen at turbo. asides was also killer that time he was here with peshy ... i think it was the second time that a-sides was here, he came alone a few months before and played a crazy set full of mad amens (my friend still talks about it as an example of watching a dj go crazy while performing ... not physically, with his selection i think she means) ... but the best time for me was that time he was here with peshay ... his set was totally dubby, rolling, and the mixing was tight tight tight.

<sidebar>
and after a-sides totally killed it that night, peshay came on and had the worst train wreck i've ever seen for his very first mix after we watched him smoke doobs and get -apparantly- too stoned to mix properly ... tried to mix in function(? maybe a rmx) and wrecked it so badly he just had to stop the record and start playing it again ... too funny ... now whenever we hear a really bad trainwreck we shout out "peshay!" ... poor peshay, i've heard him online b4 and he's actually a pretty good dj ... but his first mix ever for his first trip to tdot was a horrible trainwreck)
</sidebar>

so i think those are my top 3 turbo sets ever... die, suv, asides. gimme tapes, gimme gimme gimme
smile.gif
.. just jokes, i'm not sure if those 3 sets are even available, but if they are, i'd sure be happy to get my hands on a copy.

ps ... i should put in honorable mentions for andy c in the basement, stakka & skynet, our locals ...and can't forget about the first time die was in turbo (before it was turbo, when empire through the full cycle 2000 party in the basement with die and bill riley and nobody came)

Ryan, don't tarnish Peshay's name!
That wasn't a trainwreck. What happened was some idiot threw a full bottle at the DJ booth, and it landed right on one of the tables when Peshay was in the mix. Don't you remember Caddy spewing death threats towards the guy who did it?

I think even making a "BEST OF" box set of just the locals' sets would be pretty dope.

it gives Toronto more credit and showcases why we used to be able to say we had the arguably best drum and bass scene in the world.

ryan and dave..you both make me laugh!

i was there! i was there! i felt so bad for empire cos it felt like there was all of 20 ppl there that night but i did appreciate the room to dance and the fact that it wasn't boiling hot. i fell in love that night...the beginning of something special

hahahahhaha.

dave is correct. sketchy crowd that night (a number of fights broke out in a matter of about 15 minutes towards the end of asides set/beginning of peshay). eitherway, a water bottle was thrown, and caddy was vexed. can't blame him tho...whether you're enjoying a set or not, there are more adult ways of dealing with discontent like leaving the club or going to another room. children belong in playpens, not at jams.

oh..and by the way..the memorable set i was reffering to in my original post isn't the one you speak of. i'm talking about the first time they were here towards the end of december of 2000.

hmmm, i remember idiots throwing shit that night with peshay and i remember caddy going off on them .. but i seem to remember that being later in the set, i though he fucked up his first mix all on his own (with help from a-sides joints) ... i could be wrong tho .... perhaps it's time for me to stop yelling "peshay" everytime a dj wrecks ... but come on, it's so much fun
smile.gif

yeah i felt bad for empire @ full cycle 2000 as well ... although i think i had way more fun since it was empty than i would have had if it was packed .... it was one of the best times i've had at a party ever, what with wicked music, space to chill (including couches with free seats!) and dance. that was also the night that a couple chose to have sex on the couch beside us ... not that it's surprising, it was just funny cause it was so empty that they had no cover whatsoever, but they didn't seem to care.
